POSITION TITLE: Program Assistant (national position)

LOCATION: Kathmandu, Nepal, with frequent visits to 10 districts in central, midwest and far-west Nepal

REPORTS TO: TBD

CONTRACT LENGTH: 12 months

BACKGROUND:

Nepal is a source, transit, and destination country for human trafficking for sexual exploitation,forced labor, and exploitation for organ removal. A 2014 report estimates that 230,000 Nepal is are subject to slavery at any given time, and nearly 30 percent of the economically-active population is unemployed or underemployed.1 Hamro Samman is a five-year program generously supported by the American people through the United States Agency for International Development and implemented by Winrock International. It seeks to build the capacity of and facilitate coordination among the GON, civil society, and private sector to combat human trafficking in Nepal.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Winrock International seeks a Program Assistant to provide administrative and programmatic support to the Hamro Samman project’s counter-trafficking activities. Under the guidance of his/her supervisor, the Program Assistant will support the planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting on a wide range of project activities, ensuring their timely, efficient and professional implementation.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support planning, organization and implementation of project activities
  • Support the monitoring of activities implemented by grantees
  • Support accurate data entry and verification in the on-line DevResults platform
  • Provide support, as required and under the guidance of the Supervisor, to CSO partners in the implementation of their activities
  • Verify supporting documentation provided by grantees for accuracy and completeness
  • Contribute to quarterly and other reporting
  • Identify and prepare short communication blurbs for publication on the project’s Facebook page
  • Assist in the preparation of budgeting and work planning
  • Assist in the organization and management of meetings, workshops and seminars
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in related area. 
  • Technical: Minimum of two years of relevant experience, preferably with an INGO or international organization.

  • Professionalism: Demonstrated interest in or commitment to counter human trafficking, safe migration, human rights or other related field. Displays cultural, gender, religious, ethnicity and age sensitivity and adaptability.
  • Planning & Organizing: Ability to plan work and manage conflicting priorities. Ability to multitask and complete tasks on time. Experience organizing successful public events.
  • Communication: Strong written and spoken English and Nepali. Ability to clearly report in English, ensuring that all relevant information is included. Ability to take compelling photographs and write short interesting blurbs that summarize an activity’s impact.
  • Teamwork: Good interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships and working relations in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
  • Analytical skills: Ability to analyze information and solve problems with excellent attention to detail.
