Position Title: On-Call Migration Health Physician (01 Position)

Duty Station: Damak, Nepal

Estimated Starting Date: As soon as possible

Classification: Ungraded (UG)           

Type of Appointment: Special Short Term Daily Contract

General Function: 

Under the overall guidance of the International Migration Health Physician in Kathmandu and the direct supervision of Senior Migration Health Physician, the incumbent will assist in carrying out further referrals for TB diagnostic consultations for the immigrants bound to Australia, Canada, US and other countries.

  1. Conduct health assessments of the refugees and migrants, including review of the medical history, physical examination, re-reading of the Chest X-rays (CXR) and review of the test results, in accordance with the technical guidelines of the resettlement countries.
  2. Ensure proper identification of the migrants during physical examination.
  3. Conduct UK Pre Entry TB Screening for potential entry clearance applicants as per Technical Instruction (TI) of UK Border Agency.
  4. Record all relevant health data in standard forms; ensure completeness and accuracy of the recorded information.
  5. Liaise with the radiologist and laboratory staff regarding results of the respective tests.
  6. Make referrals for additional testing and treatment, if necessary; follow up patients on treatment.
  7. Support the SMHP in the management of the various aspects of the Health Assessment Programmes.
  8. Perform treatment of tuberculosis, sexually transmitted infections and provide support to the HIV and TB counselling activities.
  9. Ensure that all relevant data related to the heath assessment program are entered to MiMOSA and other related databases. 
  10. Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the supervisors.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medicine from an accredited academic institution with 5 years of professional work experience.
  • Valid license to practice medicine in Nepal.

Experience 

  • Effectively applies knowledge of health issues in execution of responsibilities at appropriate level.
  • Maintains confidentiality in appropriate areas of work.
  • Post graduate training and/or working experience in any of the following domains-public health, tropical medicine or chest diseases – is a distinctive advantage.
  • Knowledge of the Nepalese health system.
  • Through knowledge of communicable diseases.
  • Demonstrated awareness of gender issues.

Languages

  • Fluency in English, Nepali is required.
