Detailed Job Description / Requirements

Position: Education Specialist

No of Position: One

Reports to: Programs Manager

Duty Station: Janakpur(including frequent field visits)

Working Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

Salary Range: NPR 1,040,000.00 - 1,625,000.00 gross annually

Objective/Purpose of the Position:

The Education Specialist (ES) will primarily be responsible for technical leadership of educational aspects of the projects. S/he will primarily focus on the design, management and reporting of the Accelerated Learning Programmes (ALP) component of the DFID funded projects viz. “Breaking the Bonds” and “Marginalized No More” being implemented in Dhansuha, Mahottari, Saptari, Siraha and Sunsari districts. ES will serve as the supporting member to all the projects being implemented by Street Child with responsibility for preparing, managing and delivering work related to various aspects of teaching & learning and training developing curriculum, teacher training manuals, contribute towards assessment tools and delivering and supervising the trainings in the field. The incumbent will also lead in educational activities in terms of capacity development of consortium partners, government counterparts with an aim to incorporate Inclusive Education pedagogies during the different phases in project management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • S/he will be primarily responsible for the development of (i) teaching and learning materials such as lesson plans, teaching/learning materials and supplementary reading materials, (ii) teacher/educator training- training curriculums, delivery and follow upand (iii) coaching of the teacher/educators working in the districts pertaining to the Accelerated Learning Programme (ALP) for the DFID funded projects, viz. “Breaking the Bonds” and “Marginalized No More”
  • S/he will be responsible for the managing, reporting, delivering and coordinating on the various aspects of teaching &learning and training& coaching relating to inclusive education.
  • S/he will be the technical lead towards the consortium on education with focus that can accommodate children in humanitarian crisis, children with disabilities, children from hard-to-reach communities and out-of-school girls.
  • Coordinate and work closely with district team, consortium team members and various local-level, district-level, provincial-level and federal level governmental organizations to deliver the planned educational activities such as teacher training and training of trainers.
  • Developing guidance for Street Child’s Education Officers and consortium partners’ Education Officers in the delivery of planned activities.
  • Collaborate with consortium partners, government counterparts to ensure smooth implementation of the educational components of the projects.
  • Developing assessment tools to support monitoring and evaluation of educational components of the projects.
  • Accompany district team and consortium team for monitoring visit to the project sites and also lead the joint monitoring team with different stakeholders such as donors, Board of director members, government counterparts.
  • Preparation of weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly reports relating to the Learning and Training activities of the project.
  • S/he will take lead in assessment of existing tools, manuals and other relevant documents to assure that the tools are gender, disability and ethnicity inclusive.
  • Work in the consortium to develop the learning levels for the children and design the tools to assess the literacy/numeracy abilities in the beneficiaries.
  • Provide technical inputs during the preparation of promotional materials such as pamphlets, banners for educational activities.
  • Facilitate grievance handling (feedback mechanism) at district level for educational activities.
  • Work with M&E team to assure proper documentation of the all the activities of the educational aspects of the project.
  • Work closely with all the stakeholders at national, regional and district level to assure proper project management.
  • Coordinate with consortium members for smooth functioning of the programme.

Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree in Education or relevant social science, focus on inclusive education in terms of gender, caste and disability. (Bachelor’s degree in Education with ten years of experience in Education sector can also apply.)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in development sector with 3 years of experience in Education sector in multi-year government or international government organization projects targeting hard-to-reach communities. Experience with working with girls, children with disabilities and teacher training is a must.
  • Humanitarian response experience would be an added advantage.
  • Prior experience on Accelerated Learning Programmes is desirable.
  • Excellent facilitation, training, and capacity building skills are expected.
  • Knowledge of learning level assessment at different levels is must.
  • Computer skills- at least basic computer skills, such as Microsoft Office.
