Detailed Job Description / Requirements

Position: Accelerated Learning Programme (ALP) Coach

No of Position: Two (2)

Reports To: Education Specialist

Duty Station: Saptari and Sunsari

Working Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

Salary Range: NPR 585,000.00 - 845,000.00 gross annually

Objective/Purpose of the Position:

We are seeking for anALP Coach who will primarily be responsible for the delivery and monitoring of Accelerated Learning Program (ALP) being implemented in communities in the aforementioned districts. They will develop and strengthen the capacity of Community Educators (CEs) to facilitate learning using Street Child’s interactive pedagogical approach, conduct assessments and evaluate progress, and ensure the smooth and efficient implementation of project activities on a daily basis.

Key Responsibilities:

Management and planning:

  • Ensuring efficient delivery of the ALP to achieve target learning outcome for students;
  • Closely monitor and assess Community Educators’ performance to identify areas for improvement and develop skill-strengthening plan;
  • Consistently mentor and coach Community Educators to ensure effective teaching and learning throughout the project timeline;
  • Support M&E team in developing and implementing appropriate assessment tools for ALP classes and conducting tests;
  • Liaise and co-ordinate with partner NGO representatives for smooth delivery of ALP, conflict resolution, and maximised learning for girls;
  • Work to establish and maintain excellent working relationship with all stakeholders at district, palika and community level, including government bodies; and
  • Assist with other project activities as required to compliment the ALP.

Communication:

  • Work together with participating girls, parents, Centre Management Committee (CMC) and community members on a regular basis for smooth running of ALP classes;
  • Contribute towards achieving excellent attendance and retention by making informed recommendations to Street Child based on timely assessments and observations; and
  • Assist Street Child’s communication team to collect appropriate media content from the field as required.

Monitoring:

  • Work closely with the Programme Manager and M&E team to plan and conduct effective internal monitoring of ALP activities;
  • Work closely with the Programme Manager and M&E team to plan and conduct impact assessments for the ALP;
  • Build capacity of Community Educators to perform monitoring and impact assessment activities to Street Child’s M&E standard;
  • Lead best practices, including inclusion, across the ALP; and build capacity of Community Educators to help this process;

Reporting:

  • Consistently report on effectiveness of teaching and learning in ALP including performance of girls to address any concerns in a timely manner and scale best practices;
  • Report on performance of Community Educators to inform training and other programme activities;

Protection and compliance:

  • Ensure Street Child’s safeguarding and child protection standards are adhered to across the ALP by all involved and that any incidence of breach is immediately reported through appropriate channels and followed up;
  • Ensure implementation of teaching learning and other related activities comply with Street Child’s safeguarding and child protection standards;

Team work:

  • Effective, timely and streamlined co-ordination with other areas of the project – like skills, livelihood, finance and logistics – to achieve best results for the project.

Qualifications and skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Sciences, Social Work and or relevant discipline;
  • Demonstrated minimum of 2 years’ experience in Non-Formal Education and/or teacher training;
  • Good understanding of education concepts and issues in the development context;
  • Fluency in Maithili, Nepali and English;
  • Demonstrable experience of using Microsoft office (MS word, MS excel, Power Point etc)
  • Strong interpersonal & team building skills and excellence as a team player;
  • Excellent organisational skills including the ability to manage numerous tasks concurrently, use initiative, establish priority to work to tight or competing deadlines;
  • Ability to develop and maintain productive, effective working relationship with the team, consortium and stakeholders;
  • Capable of being flexible and open-minded towards innovative approaches to teaching and learning pedagogies; and
  • Accountable towards the role responsibilities and deliverables, demonstrating high efficiency at work while adhering to the core values of Street Child of Nepal.

Desirable:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent preferred;
  • Prior experience on Accelerated Learning Programmes;
  • Demonstrable experience in developing teaching and learning resources will be an asset;
  • Training, facilitation, coaching, supervision experience;
  • Knowledge of educational assessment and evaluation;
  • Experience in staff management will be an added advantage;
