Nutrition for Life Project
Train Health Workers on revised Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) in five Nutrition for Life project districts
1. Background
Helen Keller International is an International Non-Governmental Organization (INGO) that has been working in Nepal since 1988 to improve the nutritional status of women and young children through evidence-based research and programs. Helen Keller International Nepal implements multiple nutrition-focused projects in collaboration with government agencies, donors and local partners.
As part of the Nutrition for Life Project, Helen Keller Intl., in collaboration with the Nutrition Section/FWD and Provincial Health Directorates (PHD) of Lumbini and Madhesh, is organizing IMAM training for health workers in five project districts: Banke, Bardiya, Sarlahi, Siraha and Saptari.
The training on IMAM focuses on the revised IMAM guideline, which emphasizes updated protocols for screening, diagnosis, and management of acute malnutrition, including outpatient and inpatient care, referral mechanisms, and community-based approaches. To ensure effective rollout, Helen Keller International seeks experienced consultants who have previously facilitated IMAM training and can deliver high-quality sessions tailored to district-level needs.
2. Objectives of the Consultancy
The primary objective of this consultancy is to strengthen the capacity of health workers in the five project districts to effectively implement the revised IMAM guidelines.
Specific objectives include:
- To attend the Master Training of Trainers (MToT) on IMAM conducted by the Nutrition Section/FWD.
- To plan, coordinate and deliver IMAM training sessions for district-level health workers in collaboration with District Health Offices and partner NGOs.
- To ensure that training content is aligned with the revised IMAM guidelines and contextualized to local health system realities.
- To support cascade training and mentoring of health workers for sustainability.
3. Role of the Consultant
The consultant will:
- Participate in the MToT organized by the Nutrition Section/FWD to ensure alignment with national standards.
- Develop detailed training plans, schedules and materials for each district.
- Coordinate with District Health Offices, Helen Keller International project staff and partner NGOs to organize training logistics and cascade the training.
- Facilitate interactive training sessions, including lectures, group work, case studies and practical demonstrations.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to participants during and after training.
- Document training processes, including Pre-test and post test analysis to determine the effectiveness of the training, challenges and lessons learned.
- Submit comprehensive training reports for each district.
4. Deliverables
The consultant will be responsible for producing the following outputs:
1. Cascade Training Plan for each district, including training objectives, methodology, participant list, agenda, training evaluations tools and materials that will be used.
2. Training Implementation: Successful facilitation of IMAM training sessions in all five districts.
3. Final Training Report for each district, including:
- Summary of training activities.
- Participant attendance and feedback.
- Training evaluations, mood meters and training assessments (Pre-test and posttest) or any other.
- Key challenges and recommendations.
- Photographic documentation (where appropriate).
- Annexes (training agenda, participant list, evaluation forms).
5. Timeline
Duration: 25 days (February 9- April 8, 2026).
Tentative Schedule:
- February second week: Attend MToT organized by Nutrition Section/FWD.
- February third week: Develop training plans and coordinate with District Health Offices.
- February fourth week to March third week: Conduct IMAM training sessions in five districts (Banke, Bardiya, Sarlahi, Siraha, Saptari).
- March fourth Week & April first week: Compile and submit final training reports.
6. Requirements for consultants
- Proven experience in facilitating IMAM training in Nepal, especially in Madhesh and Lumbini provincial context.
- Strong technical knowledge of nutrition, child health and acute malnutrition management.
- Expertise on IMAM Management through super cereal plus will be value added for the consultants
- Familiarity with government health systems and protocols of nutritional components.
- Excellent facilitation, communication and documentation skills.
- Legal registration documents, VAT/PAN registration and IMAM training certificate must be submitted with the application.
- Sample of previous training facilitation work to be included.
7. Reporting and Coordination
- The consultant will report directly to the Nutrition for Life Project Manager at Helen Keller International Nepal.
- Close coordination will be maintained with the Nutrition Section/FWD, Provincial Health Directorates and District Health Offices.
- Regular updates will be shared with Helen Keller International’s project team to ensure smooth implementation.

8. Payment Terms
- Payment will be made upon submission and approval of all deliverables.
