Since then, RDC is heavily engaged in humanitarian assistance, community development, conservation of natural resources, and environmental protection mainly in the Terai region of Nepal through the dozens of humanitarian and long-term development projects reaching out to the children, adolescent, youth, women, landless, urban poor, and people living with disabilities, HIV & AIDS, conflict and disaster survivors from the poor families of historically marginalized Dalits, Muslims, Madheshi and Indigenous communities and other underprivileged groups.

Background:
Rural Development Centre (RDC) Nepal is a non-governmental, non-political and non-profit making organization established in May 2002 with its headquarter in Rautahat District of Nepal. Since then, RDC Nepal is heavily engaged in humanitarian assistance, community development, conservation of natural resources, and environmental protection mainly in the Terai and hilly region of Nepal through the dozens of humanitarian and long-term development projects.
RDC Nepal has been working in the Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction areas since long duration. In connection to this, RDC Nepal has been implementing “Building Community Resilient to Climate Risks and Vulnerabilities (BCRC) Project” in Chandrapur and Gujara Municipalities with technical and financial support from Oxfam in Nepal.
The overall objective of the project is to strengthen the Households, Community and System Resilience to enhance the climate adaptive skills of Farmer Groups, Community Forest User Groups, Community based Organization, municipality and other relevant stakeholders working on the sector of climate change and disaster management. The project supports and promotes the climate vulnerable people and communities to adapt with the changing climate through the series of interventions contributing to adaptation and mitigation initiatives. The initiatives include but is not limited to increasing income & diversifying livelihood through adoptions of Climate Smart Agriculture practices, methods & technologies, promoting green enterprises, sensitization and awareness raising initiatives ranging from communities to municipal level, supporting in the formulation of required policies in relation to Climate Change & Disaster Risk Reductions etc.
Climate change poses significant challenges to agriculture, affecting food security and livelihoods. Climate Smart and Agriculture (CSA) offers sustainable solutions by integrating climate-resilient practices. Hence, in alignment with the project plan and spirit, a capacity enhancement training for the local farmers has been planned. The training is focused to enhance capacity of the local 95 farmers in this area; therefore, four training events, three-day each are planned for local farmers in the project area.
Objective of the assignment:
The primary objective of this assignment is to design and deliver a comprehensive three-day training program on Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA). The training aims to equip participants with knowledge and practical skills to implement CSA practices effectively. The specific objectives for this assignment are as follows;
- To enhance participants' knowledge and understanding of basic concept of Climate change and its impacts particularly on agriculture and strengthen knowledge on Climate Smart Agriculture, including its principles, strategies, and benefits
- To provide hands-on training and practical demonstrations that will enable participants to implement Climate Smart Agriculture practices effectively (i.e. soil management, water conservation, crop diversification, agroforestry, and the use of climate-resilient crop varieties etc.)
- To promote participants engagement and collaboration by encouraging to share their experiences, challenges, and best practices in Climate Smart Agriculture.
Scope of work (Consultant/Consultancy firm):
The consultant/consultancy firm will undertake the following tasks:
- Develop a training curriculum in coordination and collaboration with project team members.
- Design a three-day training program including objectives, schedule, session plans, and materials.
- Revise/amend the training materials as per the recommendations/suggestions made from RDC and Oxfam in Nepal.
- Develop training materials (presentations, handouts, case studies, practical exercises etc.) in close coordination with project team.
- Prepare in advance a “Training Manual on Climate Smart Agriculture Practices in Nepali language” that participants can use as a reference during and post-training period.
- Facilitate the three-day training event, ensuring interactive and participatory approaches adhering with the safeguarding compliances.
- Use a mix of teaching methods, including lectures, group discussions, case studies, hands-on exercises, and field practical. However, the training will be more practical than theoretical, with greater emphasis on hands-on activities than on lectures and presentations.
- Ensure pre- and post-training evaluation to assess the effectiveness of the training.
- Submit a comprehensive report detailing the training process, outcomes, and feedback from participants
- Will facilitate similar training or capacity strengthening events in future for other projects at RDC Nepal, if required.
Required skills and experience/s:
- The team leader must have at least Master’s degree on the relevant discipline (i.e. Agriculture, Environmental Science, Climate Change or related field) and solid working experience on related field. while other team members must have at least a Bachelor’s degree on Agriculture, Environmental science or in Climate change.
- The proposed team leader must have a prior experience in designing training module on climate smart and adaptive agriculture while other team members should have prior training facilitation experience on related topics.
- Proven expertise in Climate Smart Agriculture practices.
- At least a team of two individual (trainer/ co-trainer) for organizing the training session as required.
- Prior work experience with different NGO/INGO is preferred
- Ability of understanding and analyzing the local context and contextualizing it to the training objectives.
- Fluent local level language skills in context to Rautahat district preferred
