About the project

The overall objective of the project is to contribute to strengthening the quality of basic education service delivery in Nepal through the responsible and effective implementation of AI technologies. Phase one of the project will establish the foundation for AI-enabled education in Nepal by combining rigorous research, teacher-led innovation, and structured policy dialogue. It will include a mixed-method national study to map AI literacy, usage, opportunities, and barriers across Nepal’s basic education system, ensuring participation from all tiers of government and diverse stakeholders, with a strong gender-sensitive approach. In parallel, a cohort of teachers will undertake classroom-based action research to generate practice-based insights into the meaningful use of AI for teaching and learning. Evidence generated from these activities will inform a series of provincial and national roundtables and an international conference, nurturing inclusive dialogue and building consensus for equitable AI in educat

About the role

The British Council is seeking a national consultant to support phase one of the project as the National Ed Tech Expert.

The consultant will provide EdTech expertise to ensure the AI4Ed Nepal project reflects global best practices and responds to Nepal’s education context. They will support the design and implementation of research, action research, and policy dialogues, offering technical guidance on AI-enabled teaching and learning. The role includes contributing to learning resources, AI in Education Standards, and stakeholder engagement, ensuring ethical, inclusive, and evidence-based integration of AI in schools.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must fulfil the following criteria to be eligible for selection under this project:

• Master’s degree in ICT in Education, EdTech or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of professional experience in the EdTech sector, with demonstrated expertise in EdTech integration, digital pedagogy, or technology-enabled learning.
• Strong understanding of AI in education, including opportunities, challenges, and ethical considerations in Nepal.
• Experience contributing to education research, innovation projects, or teacher professional development, preferably involving technology-enabled practices.
• Proven experience working with government stakeholders, teacher networks, and/or EdTech practitioners in Nepal.
• Demonstrated ability to provide technical inputs and contextual insights to strengthen programme/research design and implementation.
