Federation of Handicraft Associations of Nepal (FHAN) is calling for Expression of Interest (EOI) from eligible firm/consultant to write a book on Handicraft of Nepal.

Terms of Reference (ToR) for consultant

1. Background

The Nepalese handicrafts sector is a significant part of the country's cultural heritage and economy. It encompasses a wide range of products, including textiles, metalwork, woodcraft, and pottery. Despite its wide range, we will address 36 categories of handicraft sector in this book now.

2.Objectives

The objective of this publication is to carry out comprehensive studies and to make a compilation & documentation of 36 categories of handicraft products including its cultural & economic value.

3. Scope of Work

The consultant will undertake the following tasks:

• Collect the descriptive information on each sector of 36 categories of handicrafts conducting interviews, focus group discussions, and surveys to gather insights and perspectives
• Prepare the pictorial description of 36 categories of handicrafts.
• Prepare detail procedure of production of 36 categories of handicrafts.
• General Geographical Indication of the availability of raw materials for each category of handicraft products.
• Identify the cultural, ritual & economic values of categories of handicrafts.
• Briefly analyze domestic and international market demand for Nepalese handicrafts.
• Identify opportunities for sustainable practices and eco-friendly production methods.

4. Deliverables

The consultant will be expected to deliver the following:

• Inception Report: Detailed work plan and methodology within 1 week of signing the agreement.
• Interim Report: Progress report including initial findings and stakeholder feedback.
• Draft Final Report: Comprehensive report with analysis, findings in English.
• Final Report: Incorporating feedback on the draft report. 
• Presentation: A final presentation to key stakeholders summarizing the findings and recommendations.

5. Qualifications and Experience

• Advanced degree in economics, business administration, social sciences, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in the handicrafts sector in writing similar kind of report.
• Familiarity with the Nepalese handicrafts sector and cultural context is highly desirable.

6. Application Process

Interested consultants should submit the following:

• A detailed proposal outlining their approach and methodology for the assignment.
• CV highlighting relevant experience and qualifications.
• Examples of similar work conducted previously.
• Financial proposal including a breakdown of costs.

7. Selection Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated based on:

• Understanding of the assignment and proposed methodology.
• Relevant experience and qualifications.
• Quality and feasibility of the proposed work plan.
• Cost-effectiveness of the financial proposal.

8. Deliverables

Time Frame: The assignment is expected to take place from 8th October to 30th November 2025. The number of days for completing the assignment is estimated at a maximum of 2 months.
