CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR YOUNG FACILITATORS

DETAILS/REQUIREMENTS:

About the initiatives

The Advancing Civic Engagement for Democratic Participation (Civic Engagement) Project is a joint initiative of UNDP Nepal and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), aimed at strengthening inclusive and accountable governance in Nepal by expanding democratic civic space, particularly for young people.

Under this initiative, the Nepal Transition to Peace Institute (NTTP-I) has partnered with UNDP Nepal to implement the Intergenerational Policy Dialogue Series on Youth Civic Engagement in Madhesh Province. The initiative seeks to promote meaningful youth participation and foster constructive policy engagement across generations. Through structured dialogue and advocacy platforms, it brings together young advocates and experienced policymakers to exchange perspectives, identify policy gaps, develop actionable recommendations, and jointly advance democratic accountability.

Rather than being limited to one-off events, the initiative is designed as a sustained and institutionalized process of intergenerational partnership. It provides a constructive platform for civic engagement, particularly in responding to the evolving aspirations and active civic participation of Nepal's Gen-Z generation.

What is this call about?

Young people have long been at the forefront of social movements, protests, and civic campaigns. However, they remain largely sidelined from formal policy processes that directly shape their futures. Although they are mobilized as catalysts for social change, they are not sufficiently recognized as active participants in decision-making. This growing gap between younger and older generations risks deepening mutual misunderstanding, institutional distrust, and social fragmentation.

This call aims to create a constructive platform for young people to bridge generational divides, shape intergenerational policy conversations, engage with decision-makers, and ensure that dialogue outcomes translate into meaningful policy action. It also seeks to promote a lasting culture of intergenerational collaboration beyond the project period.

The initiative will establish structured, evidence-based dialogue platforms where young people can actively shape policy discussions rather than merely observe them. Recognizing that access to decision-making spaces alone is insufficient, it will also equip young leaders with the advocacy skills, evidence, confidence, and institutional support needed to facilitate negotiations, influence policy processes, and lead meaningful intergenerational engagement.

THE OPPORTUNITY: LEADING THE CHARGE

To bring this vision to life, NTTP-I is seeking 10 dynamic young leaders to become part of this initiative. Selected participants will receive intensive capacity-building and take an active leadership role in shaping and facilitating policy conversations across six priority thematic areas.

Working closely with experienced facilitators, researchers, and policy experts, the selected young leaders will contribute to setting dialogue agendas, bringing diverse perspectives and lived experiences into policy discussions, facilitating intergenerational dialogues, and following up on institutional commitments.

This is an opportunity to move beyond participation towards meaningful decision-making, from having a voice to shaping policy processes, and from generational divides to constructive dialogue and collective action.

THE VALUE OF THIS OPPORTUNITY

This initiative offers a unique combination of practical learning, civic leadership, and professional development. Selected young leaders will benefit from a fully funded capacity-building and professional engagement opportunity designed to strengthen their skills and experience in public policy, governance, and advocacy.

By joining this cohort, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Build Strategic Policy Influence: Understand how public policies are formulated in Nepal, identify key entry points for advocacy, and develop strategies to engage with decision-makers.
  • Master Policy Dialogue and Facilitation: Receive practical, expert-led training in policy dialogue frameworks, facilitation methodologies, active listening, negotiation, and effective communication.
  • Shape the Policy Agenda: Take an active role in identifying, refining, and prioritizing key issues that will inform the programme and its six national-level policy dialogues.
  • Learn from Senior Experts and Practitioners: Work closely with experienced facilitators, subject-matter experts, researchers, and institutional stakeholders through continuous mentorship and practical engagement.
  • Gain Paid Professional Experience: Receive formal consultancy contracts and remuneration for your contributions to policy dialogue facilitation, building valuable professional experience and strengthening your portfolio.
  • Lead Multi-Stakeholder Dialogues: Engage directly with youth leaders, parliamentarians, senior bureaucrats, civil society representatives, and other stakeholders in important policy conversations.
  • Expand Professional Networks and Visibility: Build professional connections across Nepal's civic, policy, and research sectors while receiving formal recognition for contributions to policy briefs, position papers, and advocacy materials.
  • Bridge the Generational Divide: Contribute to building sustainable spaces where younger and older generations can listen to one another, exchange perspectives, and jointly develop solutions for inclusive and accountable governance.
