Human Rights and Advocacy Officer

FAITH invites applications from qualified and committed individuals for the position of Human Rights and Advocacy Officer – Marginalized Women’s Rights. The Human Rights and Advocacy Officer will lead FAITH’s advocacy efforts to advance and protect the human rights of marginalized women, including sex workers, at local, provincial, and federal levels. The position focuses on strengthening relationships with government bodies, human rights institutions, and civil society to influence laws, policies, and practices in favor of equality, justice, and non-discrimination.
This is not a program management role — it is intended for a motivated activist with strong political awareness, legal and policy literacy, and commitment to social justice.
Key Responsibilities
1. Policy and Legal Advocacy
- Monitor national and local policies, laws, and practices affecting sex workers and other marginalized women.
- Contribute to advocacy for legal reform (e.g., human rights frameworks).
- Prepare policy briefs, advocacy notes, and position papers to influence government, human rights commissions, and UN mechanisms.
- Coordinate FAITH’s engagement in national consultations, CEDAW and UPR reporting, and dialogues with parliamentarians.
2. Government and Stakeholder Coordination
- Build and sustain relationships with government representatives, law enforcement agencies, and local government offices to advocate for inclusive, rights-based responses.
- Facilitate regular dialogues between sex worker groups and government bodies for policy feedback and accountability.
- Support the development of local and federal-level commitments aligned with FAITH’s advocacy priorities.
3. Movement Building and Representation
- Strengthen leadership and participation of women from marginalized communities in decision-making processes.
- Represent FAITH in human rights networks, coalitions, and alliances at the national and regional level.
- Mentor community-based organizations to enhance their advocacy and negotiation skills.
4. Research and Documentation
- Document human rights violations, discrimination, and positive practices affecting sex workers and other marginalized groups.
- Contribute to evidence-based advocacy through data, stories, and case documentation.
- Support the production of periodic human rights updates and advocacy publications.
5. Capacity Building and Public Engagement
- Organize awareness sessions, public campaigns, and dialogues to challenge stigma and discrimination.
- Facilitate orientation for local authorities, police, and other duty bearers on equality and human rights standards.
Required Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Human Rights, Gender Studies, or related field (Master’s preferred but not mandatory).
- Minimum five years’ experience in human rights advocacy, policy engagement, or social movement activism.
- Proven experience working with marginalized populations (sex workers, women living with HIV, female who use drugs, LGBTQI+, women with disabilities, etc.).
Skills and Attributes
- Strong understanding of Nepal’s human rights and governance systems.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills in Nepali and English.
- Strong political and social analysis with ability to strategize advocacy initiatives.
- Active network with civil society, media, and government actors.
- Feminist values and commitment to equality and bodily autonomy.
- Self-motivated, field-oriented, and able to work with community-based activists.
