Collective Campaign for Peace (COCAP)

Collective Campaign for Peace (COCAP) is a national network of peace and human rights non-governmental organizations in Nepal. It started as a loose, informal forum in June 2001 and was registered with the government of Nepal as a nonprofit and non-political network in December 2002. Currently, COCAP has 43 member organizations. It has a secretariat in each of the provinces. It has a large number of volunteers who actively involve themselves in the various aspects of its works. COCAP aims to provide a common space for its members, volunteers and friends to collectively engage in the pursuit of peace, human rights and justice in Nepal. It organizes national/provincial level campaigns and programs on the issues of conflict transformation and peace building, transitional justice and social security/protection in coordination with its member organizations and other like-minded organizations.

Location: Kathmandu, with extensive travel and field work (approx. 30%)

Salary Range: 40,000-50,000 NPR per month (depending on experience)

The Nepal Monitor Project is recruiting a Training and Outreach Officer. This staff member will be an integral part of our work creating a community that effectively engages in joint activities to protect and promote human rights, crossing societal divisions. Key to this role is the ongoing support of a peer learning group of Women Human Rights Defenders in Province 2 and the review and progression of this strand of work, in addition to outreach and awareness raising

Responsibilities

  • Lead on facilitation of peer learning groups for Women Human Rights Defenders including: participant liaison and needs assessment, development and facilitation of sessions, identification of suitable guest trainers and resource people and evaluation and development of the overall programme.
  • Coordinate NepalMonitor.org outreach activities in cooperation with the Nepal Monitor Project Coordinator and conduct trainings on how to use the NepalMonitor.org system and security for HRDs in the field in districts and manage its preparation and logistics 
  • Manage communication and relationships with HRDs and journalists and relevant government authorities in the field
  • Lead on the sensitive documentation and management of participant data and design effective systems for monitoring and evaluating learning and impact across T&O activities
  • Maintain detailed financial records and work with COCAP finance office to ensure sound management of resources
  • Assist in development of schedule, manuals and dissemination material for training on HRD related topics 
  • Assist in the production of analysis based on reports and other information for our website
  • Assist further conceptual development of the project
  • Travel extensively throughout the country, including remote areas, to engage direct with service users, and strengthen the Nepal Monitor network (approximately 1/3 of the working time will be in the field)
  • Work closely with the Human Rights Mapping Coordinator, the Documentation and Protection officerand the Project Coordinator in order to ensure strong communication and strategic coherence across all components of the project

Your profile 

  • You have at least 2 years of training experience around Nepal and extensive knowledge and experience of wide range of methods and tools for participatory learning and action.
  • You are an energetic and motivated self-starter and have experience in developing, delivering and evaluating customized trainings to meet the specific needs of participants and developing related resources and materials.
  • You have an Undergraduate and ideally a Master’s degree or comparable qualifications in a relevant field e.g. Human Rights, Politics, Education
  • You are interested in protection and security management, especially as relating to Human Rights Defenders
  • You are interested in the usage of ICT tools and open datain human rights and governance work
  • You are willing to work in a complex political and sociocultural environment and are open and able to do extensive trips, including  travel to remote areas
  • You have strong communication and conflict resolutions skills 
  • You value diversity and are committed to respecting and working with a wide range of colleagues and service users
  • You are a Human Rights andGender Equality advocate and committed to the role of civil society in promoting them
  • You have knowledge of the Human Rights situation in Nepal, and can effectively conduct spoken and written human rights discourse using both English and Nepali terminology 
  • You possess strong written and spoken English and Nepali skills, including the capacity to produce detailed and professional reports
  • You have a good understanding of key issues affecting communities in Province 2 and have working knowledge of at least one language local to province 2
  • You are willing and able to abide by strict security protocols, including the use of security software, and will respect the confidentiality of PBI, COCAP, and all of their contacts 
  • You are competent in using Microsoft Office 
  • You are a citizen of Nepal 

Contract Duration: The initial contract will be 2 years, based in Kathmandu with frequent field visits

Salary: The salary range (depending upon experience) will be 40,000-50,000 NRs per month with additional yearly increments and bonuses.
