Local Roads Bridge Programme (LRBP)

Local Roads Bridge Programme (LRBP) is a joint programme of Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and Government of Nepal for the implementation of motorable roads bridge in LRN throughout the country since 2011. On the behalf of SDC, AF-Iteco Ltd. Switzerland, constitutes the Local Roads Motorable Bridge Programme Support Unit (LRBSU) responsible to provide technical assistance to the District Development Committees (DDC) and center through Local Bridge Section (LBS), Department of Local Infrastructure Development for Agricultural Roads (DoLIDAR) on motorable bridge sub-sector activities.The duration of the 1st phase is 4 years from February 1, 2011 to November 30, 2014. Considering high priority to bridge construction work and its continuation, GoN and SDC extended 1st phase of LRBP till, May 31, 2016. Similarly LRBP 2nd Phase was signed on May 13, 2013 for 9 months period from June 01, 2016 to February 28, 2017. And LRBP 3rd phase was signed on January 26, 2017 for 3 years 5 months period from March 01, 2017 to July 31, 2020. The concept of local roads bridge is defined as an access to the services and opportunities to recognize the development potentials in the programmed region. LRBP aims to improve the livelihood of people targeting disadvantaged groups in programme districts via increasing accessibility to the services and opportunities.

Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) is providing Technical Assistance (TA) to the Government of Nepal (GoN) through the Department of Local Infrastructure Development (DoLI) under Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration (MoFAGA) in the implementation of Local Roads Bridge Programme (LRBP) in Nepal. One of the objectives of LRBP is to enhance national and local capacities in bridge building, in addition to improving livelihoods of people by means of providing all-weather motorable access to services and opportunities.

On behalf of Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), Local Roads Bridge Support Unit (LRBSU) provides the Technical Assistance to the Government of Nepal for implementation of LRBP.

To support in achieving the objectives above, LRBP offers an opportunity of traineeship to fresh female graduate engineers to gain knowledge, skills and exposure in the field of motorable and trail bridge engineering. LRBP/AF-ITECO invites applications from interested and qualified Nepali Nationals for the following traineeship.

Position: Trainee Engineer (FEMALE only) - 21 positions

Qualification: Fresh Graduates completing Bachelors in Civil Engineering. No prior job experience required, having keen learning attitude and sense of responsibility, is open for relocation and sensitive towards multicultural environment with an enthusiasm in field travels.

Duty station: State Bridge Support Offices of LRBSU with frequent travel to fields (at least 70% of time), with possibility of interchanges in duty stations as per project’s requirements.

Purpose: Provide professional exposure on real work environment through intense coaching and guidance from experienced LRBSU staff. 

Major Roles and Responsibilities

The Trainee Engineer will acquire in-depth knowledge, hands-on skills and experience in motorable and trail bridge. She will be responsible to assist State Bridge Support Offices for planning, budgeting, survey, design, estimate, construction, monitoring and supervision, quality control and quality assurance of motorable and trail bridges. 

Duration: 12 months for Trainee Engineer from the appointment date.
