VOLUNTEER MANDATE

Position title: GESI Advisor

City, country: Kathmandu, with some field visits

Length of posting: 12 months 

Context justifying the creation of the volunteer position/description of the position: 

Uniterra is working with 20 partners in Nepal, in the Agra Enterprise Development Sector. Gender and caste based discrimination is prevalent in the country. Women’s economic empowerment is the cross cutting theme of Uniterra and its partners are also serious about it. However to mainstream gender and social inclusion in their organization and program, they need to enhance their knowledge and skills. 

The Volunteer is required to help Uniterra partners to assist them in their own capacity building as well as mainstreaming gender and social inclusion.   

Expected results (maximum 2 results):

  • Uniterra partners have developed and institutionalized GESI policies and strategies
  • Uniterra partners are actively implementing, measuring their GESI Action Plans and have a good understanding of the mainstreaming process for Women’s Economic Empowerment

Principal responsibilities: 

  • collaborate with the International volunteer to develop and facilitate GESI capacity development activities with Uniterra partners
  • work with Uniterra partners to review, update and/or develop their GESI policies and strategies for women’s economic empowerment
  • work with Uniterra partners to implement their GESI Action Plans
  • implement a GESI responsive monitoring and evaluation framework with Uniterra partners
  • develop and update a database or shared information network which includes GESI resources and documents
  • Ensure equal participation of men and women in all the work
  • Provide all the reports required by Uniterra and partner organizations

Description of ideal candidate: 

1-Professional skills: 

  • Proven experience in Gender and Social Inclusion issues and women’s economic empowerment,
  • Experience in working with multidisciplinary teams 
  • Ability to transfer knowledge and skills

2-Personal aptitudes, including language requirements as applicable: 

  • Good communicator;
  • Respect, and tolerance toward other cultures; 
  • Good team player
  • Acceptance of supporting role; social commitment and volunteerism.

3-Education and professional experience: 

  • University degree in social science, international development or related field 

Working conditions

The volunteer will be based on CECI office located at Baluwatar, Kathmandu. The office timing is from 8:30 am – until 04:30 pm, from Monday through Friday. For the evaluation of existing practice, volunteer will be visiting the partner organizations in regular basis. The volunteer will be provided with the office space and internet is available in the office. It is highly recommended that the volunteer brings his/her own laptop.
