Writing Good Practices from STEM II Programme

BASE is a leading NGO officially registered in 1991 with District Administrative Office, Dang and SWC. BASE has worked in the field of education since its inception. BASE's reputation grew up amongst the marginalized communities of the mid-western and far-western region (province no. 5, Karnali and Sudurpaschim) resulting in a rapidly expanding grass roots and membership based social movement with an aim to empower socially excluded groups. BASE's program delivery has expanded to include formal education, non-formal (financial literacy), livelihood and support to sustainable economic development, child protection and child labor elimination, women empowerment, adolescent development, human rights violation monitoring, conflict mitigation through dialogue, WASH, equity,  environmental sustainability, disaster preparedness  and response,  protection and promotion of traditional and indigenous cultures and strengthening governance in local institutions. BASE intends to recruit qualified Nepali citizens as consultant for writing good practices under the project Supporting the Education of Marginalised Girls in Kailali (STEM-II) project in Kailali district.

Programme Summary 

BASE has been implementing Supporting the Education of Marginalised Girls (STEM II) programme for the period July 2017 to July 2020. The STEM II programme is a 3 years' project funded by DFID focused on girls' education especially for Marginalised Girls in Kailali District of Sudurpaschim Province with technical support from Mercy Corps Nepal. This project is a part of a DFID-led global initiative called the Girls Education Challenge (GEC). By the end of the programme, STEM II is expected to reach around 5,000 In-school girls which includes In- School girls between grade 8 to 10, and 2000. Out-Of-School girls who dropped out from school grade 6 to 10 since 2066 BS. The program targets Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City, Gauriganga, Ghodaghodi and Tikapur Municipality and Kailari and Bardgoriya Rural Municipalities. 

Position Title:  Consultant– 1

Duty Station:  Based in BASE Office Dhangadhi Kailali with frequent field visits to project schools 

Duration: Two months 

Qualification and Experience

  • Bachelor Degree in Education or in Social Science with relevant experience
  • Knowledge, Experience and Skills regarding research and writing for about two years 
  • Knowledge about Nepal's Education System and policy 
  • Competence to write in Nepali  and English at a high speed accurately and consistently
  • Experience in collecting data, photos and story from the field
  • Influencing local and national media to include stories from field

Skills, Knowledge and Aptitude

  • Coordination skill with project team, school, Head Teacher and teachers
  • Computer Skills (writing competence both in Nepali and English)
  • Knowledge and Skills to investigate good practices of core subjects of grade 8 to 10
  • Knowledge and Skills to structure/organize stories of good practices in the form of a booklet
  • Knowledge and skills to write Nepali correctly and accurately, which would require little editing
  • Skills in capturing high quality photos of programme participants 

Deliverables

  • Provide about 50 to 60-page final product of the good practices in teaching and learning, child safeguarding, parental engagement, inclusive education, livelihood and school management 
  • The write up should be of high standard and publishable quality 
  • High quality photo (100 photos)

Major responsibilities

  • Identify stories that need to be documented from the 'Good Practice Sharing Workshops' and do the follow up research and writing
  • Undertake follow up research and writing concerning good practices going on in the project schools
  • Work and share the 'Good Practices' with project team, specifically with different thematic heads on a timely basis
  • Draft the 'Good Practices' and share it with the project team, including programme participant's photos
  • Submit the final draft of publishable quality to the project team on time
