CONSULTANT - ENGLISH EDITOR

BACKGROUND:

Nepal is a source, transit, and destination country for sex, labor, and organ trafficking. A 2014 report estimates that 230,000 Nepalis are subject to slavery at any given time, and nearly 30 percent of the economically-active population is unemployed or underemployed. The Hamro Samman project is a five-year program generously supported by the American people through the United States Agency for International Development and the British people through the United Kingdom’s Department For International Development and implemented by Winrock International. It seeks to build the capacity of and facilitate coordination among the GON, civil society, and private sector to combat human trafficking in Nepal. 

OVERVIEW:

The Hamro Samman Projectis seeking qualified consultants for its roster to edit and write various English language documents and reports on human trafficking and foreign labor migration.  

TASKS AND OUTPUT:

The Editor will support tasks including editing English language in reports, checking for repetition, re-ordering and shortening reports to relay clear messaging, editing formatting to ensure consistency with Winrock’s style guide, compile or write compilation project progress reports, etc. The documents should be edited to ensure consistent and correct grammar, style and content.

TIMING, DURATION AND LOCATION:

Qualified applicants will be placed on Hamro Samman’s roster and contacted from time to time to provide editing services. The work will be home based, with visits to the Kathmandu office from time to time as needed. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education:Master's degree in Humanity, English or related field or equivalent inexperience.

Technical: Minimum of 4 years of professional expertise on drafting and editing content in English.

*Applicants must be legally able to work in Nepal.

Experience/Skills/Knowledge:

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Experience in consolidating and analyzing data and writing reports 
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Experience writing and/or editing research report and donor reports for international donors an asset
  • Ability to manage the available time and resources and to work on tight deadlines
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint
