The CIMMYT is seeking an experienced professional to supportthe Sustainable and Resilient Farming Systems Intensification (SRFSI) project funded by ACIAR.  The project aims to reduce poverty in Eastern Gangetic Plains (EGPs)by improving the productivity, profitability and sustainability of small farmers while safeguarding the environment. Position title: Communications Specialist

Duty station: Kathmandu

Specific duties:

  • Working with project scientists, develop and implement a communications plan to sensitize audiences about agricultural practices promoted by the project for various end users (including extension agents, policy makers, farmers etc.).
  • Develop promotional materials (reports, fact sheets, booklets, hand-outsetc) and communications plan to specifically highlight the benefits of promoted practices in relation to climate change.
  • Develop and maintain a centralized online repository and presence for ‘Conservation Agriculture in South Asia’ including scientific and non-scientific resources.
  • Participate in planning, material development, logistics for occasional conferences and workshops, and document project meetings through visual and written outputs.
  • Assist with reporting requirements related to  the project’s portfolio.
  • Work with CIMMYT Communications team to promote the CIMMYT-ACIAR portfolio of projects through CIMMYT social media.
  • Work closely with CIMMYT’s Communications team to support SRFSI content on CIMMYT’s website and the intranet.
  • Other communications activities related to the CIMMYT-ACIAR portfolio.
  • Any other duties as requested by supervisor.

Required academic qualifications, skills and attitudes:

  • Master’s Degree in communications or related field.
  • Experience of at least 1 year working with a development agency.
  • Proven English writing and editing skills, fluency in English   with preference given for candidates who are able to communicate in Nepali, Hindi and/or Bengali. 
  • Comfort with reading and summarizing technical content.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with collaborators, governments, NGOs and farmers.
  • Creativity in presentation and problem solving. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word). Interest and/or skills with online communications platforms such as Mailchimp, SPARK etc a plus
  • The selected candidate must exhibit the following competencies: Multi-cultural awareness/sensitivity, Time Management, Communication and Problem-solving.
