One Heart Worldwide (OHW) is an International Non-Governmental Organization that has been working in the area of Maternal and Neonatal Health (MNH) since 2011. OHW works with local communities and local health service providers to develop a culturally appropriate Network of Safety around mothers and infants, by raising awareness, teaching good practices, and distributing essential equipment to ensure that mothers and infants survive delivery and the first months of life.

Position: Communication/ PR Officer

Reporting to: Program Director

Duty Station: One Heart Worldwide (OHW) Kathmandu Office with frequent field visits

Purpose of the Position:

Under the direct supervision of the Program Director, the Communication/PR Officer is responsible for developing, coordinating, managing and implementing media blueprints, and corresponding, coordinating and sharing all media relevant messaging with the OHW headquarters prior to release. The Communications/PR Officer is to provide all relevant information on the progress of the OHW Nepal programs in the form of the story, notes, audio-visuals and update on a regular basis for public relation building and communication purposes of OHW worldwide.

The Communication/PR Officer main responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Research, develop, coordinate and share all OHW program related progress details with the Program Director and OHW headquarters as to be able to produce program relevant communication narratives on OHW worldwide.
  • Should be a good writer with great verbal communication skills in English. 
  • Visit regularly the field offices to collect, prepare and review the case and program narratives from mothers, families, volunteers, partners, local communities, agencies and government officials along with the photos/videos.
  • Responsible for preparing audio visuals as per program needs and partners requirement.
  • Communicate with members of radio and television media. Manage media relations and maximize media opportunities.
  • Develop internal publications such as newsletters, press note, releases, email announcements, planned publications, on-line, intranet, video, special projects and assignments.
  • Ensure the appropriateness, consistency and quality of the case and program narratives and other communication blueprints that are collected, prepared and reviewed prior to communicating to CR and OHW headquarters, and prior to final release.
  • Ensure accurate and rapid information dissemination to the Nepal senior management team as well as the OHW headquarters prior to release to media, NGOs, the field and other appropriate audiences.
  • Manage social media communications. Draft and edit communication materials such as press releases and other corporate communication materials for signature by Nepal senior management and OHW headquarters.
  • Support all case and program narratives with emotive pictures and visuals.
  • Coordinate and respond to media queries in a timely and effective manner.
  • Assist with OHW events and launches. Take photos/shoot videos of those events and edit as needed.
  • Assist with and prepare OHW responses to culturally and politically controversial situations and negative press media coverage.
  • Assist with and coordinate with government counterparts the development and appropriate use of communication for social development aimed at both individual behavior change and collective action. Provide technical support as required.
  • Assist and coordinate social media outreach with Nepal program team and OHW headquarters.
  • Any other duties assigned by the supervisor and Country Representative.

Job Specifications (minimum job requirements):

Academic qualification and work experience: 

  • Bachelor degree in communication or journalism. Higher degrees preferred.
  • Minimum five years of work experience in the relevant field including producing online content, photography and filming.

Skills and abilities:

  • Willing to make regular field trips independently in rural Nepal 
  • Excellent reading and writing skills both in Nepali and English.
