BACKGROUND:

The Knowledge-based Integrated Sustainable Agriculture in Nepal (KISAN) II Project is a USAID funded five-year second phase of the USAID Feed the Future (FTF) initiative in Nepal. The aim of KISAN II is to increase resilience, inclusiveness, and sustainability of income growth in the FTF zone of influence.  The US$ 32.70 million project is implemented by Winrock International in collaboration with five other Nepali and US based organizations: Center for Environmental and Agricultural Policy, Research, Extension and Development (CEAPRED), Development Project Service Center (DEPROSC), Digital Green, Siddhartha Inc, and Overseas Strategic Consulting (OSC).  

KISAN II aims to work with private sector firms, input suppliers, Millers, and private sector change agents etc.; whoever are playing a catalyst role in agriculture productivity, competitive market systems, a stronger enabling environment to agriculture sector business growth and literacy skills. KISAN II will work in the 20 districts in the West, Mid-West and Far-West Regions (FTF Zone of Influence I), and four earthquake -affected districts in the Central Region (FTF Zone of Influence 2).

KISAN II is looking for competitive candidates in the role of Business Development Facilitator for four cluster offices in Dang, Kailali, Kathmandu and Banke. 

JOB SUMMARY

The Business Development Facilitator will lead business opportunities activities in cluster offices. They will identify opportunities in agriculture market and facilitate relationships with private actors by enhancing their capacities and linking them to larger markets to capture better business volumes. They will ensure that sustainable business models are integrated in developing of partnerships and ensure monitoring of the partnerships. 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead business opportunities activities in cluster offices.
  • Assess market trends of KISAN II agriculture sectors to understand and develop sustainable business models with private sectors
  • Identify and assess primary actors of the agriculture sector (agro-vets, feed companies, traders, wholesalers, financial institutions, government etc), their capacities, functions, coverage areas, constraints and partnership potential.
  • Understand private sectors’ business models, identify common opportunities of working together and assess its feasibility.
  • Work closely with cluster team to manage and maintain relationships with private sector actors; and develop network of private actors in the cluster
  • Facilitate linkages between private sectors and farmers, including disadvantaged group of the area.
  • Conduct market analysis of KISAN II agriculture sectors to understand sector, market opportunities, constraints and intervention possibilities
  • Develop and monitor partnerships in coordination with cluster teams
  • Facilitate and establish relationships with key value chain actors in the working areas
  • Work closely with central, regional and cluster team to share opportunities and business models.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES:

The candidates shall have the following qualifications and experiences

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business, Agriculture, Development, or related field.

Experience:

  • At least 4 years of experience working in agricultural/agribusiness development 
  • Proven experience of value chain analysis and/or market system development
  • Proven ability to foster and maintain partnerships, particularly with private sector actors 
  • Strong communication skills, fluency in both English and Nepali required
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to cope and adapt to different institutional environment
