Nepal Public Health Foundation (NPHF) is going to implement two and half year project “Farming, Health and Environment Nepal Project (FHEP 2017-19)” in collaboration with the Danish NGO, ICOEPH/DASAM and DIALOGOS through funding from Danish Civil Society in Development (CISU) from September 01, 2017. NPHF is seeking highly qualified and dynamic Nepali citizen for the following positions:

Job Responsibilities:

The Agriculture Officer (AO) will have the overall responsibility for the farming related activities such as integrated pest management, pesticide handling and safe use of pesticides. RO will work in close coordination with the Project Manager to plan and implement the project activities. S/he will conduct a baseline and follow up questionnaire survey among farmers, professional sprayers and pesticide retailers about the general agricultural related activities, knowledge on safe use of pesticide and integrated pest management.S/he will have  a practical knowledge on farmers field school (FFS), preparatory meeting, ballot box testing, Soil PH, organic matter content testing, insect pest identification, pest dynamics measurements, pesticide calibration, sprayer cleaning methods, nozzle handling, PRA (pest risk analysis) and PPE (personal protective equipment’s) etc.  S/he will gather, develop and produce farmers training materials about pest, pesticides, integrated pest management (IPM) and safe use of pesticide. S/he will provide theoretical and practical training courses useful to farmers, pesticide retailers about IPM, safe use of pesticides, safe handling of sprayers, use of personal protective equipment’s (PPE) and safe storage of pesticides. S/he will also be involved in supervision and follow-up of the implementation of the project.

 

Required Qualification

  • BSc Agriculture with few years of work experience of conducting IPM-FFS or MSc in in Agriculture. Specialization in entomology/plant pathology will be given priority.
  • Profound knowledge in IPM-FFS in vegetables Ability to take responsibility and function independently
  • Easily adjustable in faming environment and showing their impressive moral characters while dealing with farmers.  
  • Ability to coordinate and dealing capacity with different levels of district and national level stakeholders and subject matter specialists. 
  • Ability to  give evidence for economic and social benefit of adaptation of IPM program
  • Capacity to advocate for IPM through Farmers Fields schools at local level
  • Ability to write IPM related articles, training materials and research reports in local and national levels.  
  • Knowledge of database/spreadsheet/word/PowerPoint and data analysis (GenStat, Minitab or SPSS)

Skills and Experience

  • Must have at least 1 year practical experience on the above mentioned qualities
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work in team and also with other stakeholders
  • Proficiency skills in reviewing literature and writing report
  • Fluent in English and Nepali (both speaking and writing)
  • Critical conceptual thinking and analytical skills

 

Salary: As per NPHF’s financial rules 

Duration: 1.5 year
