REED- Nepal was founded as the National NGO in 2000 A.D to consolidate the Teacher Training Programs. Since its inception, REED- Nepal has followed Sir Edmund Hillary’s footsteps to mountainous regions. North East of Nepal, the home of Mount Everest and Himalayas. 

REED-Nepal has a holistic approach to ensuring quality education. The organization works with teachers, school committees, parents and community members. REED has been constructing Earthquake Resilient School Buildings after the devastating Earthquake in 2015 with support of Australian Himalayan Foundation, Himalayan Trust-UK, Schulervein Lo-Manthang, Asian Development Bank/Central Level Project Management Unit/Nepal Reconstruction Authority. REED Nepal currently needs to fill up the following position for one of its projects called " Disaster Resilience of School Project (DRSP)" in a joint venture funded by CLPIU-Education/ADB in earthquake affected 14 districts of Nepal.

A.   Position: Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Trainer-2

Job Location: DRSP Project working districts (Earthquake most affected 14 districts ) of Nepal 

Project Duration: 18 months (fixed term contract)

Direct report to: Team Leader/DRM Specialist-DRSP 

Travel: full time field based and other location as per need of the REED-Nepal.

Position Summary:

The DRR trainer is responsible for carrying out the school related disaster risk management trainings and facilitation of activities to reduce school disaster risks through plan preparation, simulations and orientation. The DRR Trainer facilitates participatory methods and techniques for preparation of GESI responsive disaster risk reduction plan to schools.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Rapport building with local government officials (education) and school management committee;
  • Facilitate to establish school disaster risk management committee (SDRMC) in consultation with local government and school management committee;
  • Independently conduct and facilitate School DRR training in participation of targeted participants as directed by the Team Leader aligning with approved template, guidelines and format;
  • Identify preparedness and response measures of potential disasters together with local government, school management committee, teachers and students;
  • Organize preparedness and response drill on multi hazards with participation of SMC, Teachers and Students;
  • Ensure to prepare and endorse GESI responsive school DRM plan;
  • Ensure to establish Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) clubs; 
  • Follow up of training and simulation event and collect report from each schools; 
  • Data and knowledge management of trainings, meetings and simulation events and update regularly in Project Management Information System (PMIS);
  • Any other task given by the Team Leader.

Job Requirements:

  • Have a bachelor degree from a recognized university/college preferably in civil engineering, disaster risk management, social science or any other relevant subject; 
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in preparation of School DRM plan, school level DRR training and DRR mainstreaming into education sector;
  • Thorough knowledge, understanding and experience on implementation of comprehensive school safety framework including multi hazards risk assessment, disaster risk management plan and response drill of multi-hazard context; 
  • Proven experience as DRR trainer and knowledge of modern training techniques and tools in DRR subjects;
  • Working knowledge in MS Office. 

B.   Position: Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Officer (GESI)/MHM Trainer-1

Job Location: DRSP Project working districts (Earthquake most affected 14 districts ) of Nepal 

Project Duration: 18 months (fixed term contract)

Direct report to: Team Leader/DRM Specialist-DRSP 

Travel: full time field based and other location as per need of the REED-Nepal.

Position Summary:

The GESI Officer will work with the direct supervision and guidance of Team Leader/DRM Specialist in close coordination with the DRR Trainer for preparation of GESI responsive school DRM plan and facilitation of training of female teachers and students in menstrual health and hygiene at school level. S/he will be contributed for drafting of the training manual of Menstrual Hygiene Management into school in close consultation with GESI Specialist of CLPIU and Team Leader.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Rapport building with local government officials (education) and school management committee;
  • Identify the issues and problem on menstrual health and hygiene;
  • Independently conduct and facilitate orientation/training at school on menstrual health and hygiene, 
  • Support to prepare GESI responsive school DRM plan;
  • Facilitate to establish GESI sensitive Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) clubs;
  • Ensure field level data is disaggregated and report to Team Leader;
  • Data and knowledge management of trainings, meetings and simulation events and update in Project Management Information System (PMIS);
  • Any other task given by the Team Leader.

Job Requirements:

  • Have a bachelor degree from a recognized university/college preferably in Gender studies, Public Health, social science or any other relevant subject; 
  • Knowledge and experience in developing gender/social inclusion focused DRR training modules and awareness activities; 
  • At least 3 years core experience in GESI and strong skill on training design and facilitation mainly on GESI integration in DRR, Menstrual and Hygiene;
  • Good report writing skills in Nepali and English;
  • Familiar with updated government GESI policies/provisions; 
  • Working knowledge in MS Office. 

Job Type: the positions demand extensive travel to the field and the project duration is for 18 months.
