CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM MANAGER

Tukee Foundation works in partnership with US-based NIVAS to empower housing-insecure families in their endeavor to overcome poverty and homelessness in Nepal. Our main focus is women-led families and the immense barriers to providing safe shelter for their children. Tukee Foundation is made up of a wide array of professionals from social work to entrepreneurship to construction. NIVAS is made up of AEC (architecture, engineering, and construction) members and US donors. In combination with our other Nepali partners, we have helped over 2,500 people have new or improved housing in Nepal through our hands-on process.

We are a small, collaborative team that utilizes our resources effectively to create transformational impact for the families we serve. We are seeking a passionate, highly-skilled, and dedicated new team member to lead our construction services. As the head of our construction program, this candidate must be passionate about creating equity for the most vulnerable families in Nepal and must have a strong belief in the agency and abilities of all women. The ideal candidate will see themselves as a leader who will drive this program to great heights. The Construction Program Manager works directly and collaboratively with our Program Coordinator, Tukee Foundation President, and Nivas Executive director.

This position is highly flexible with great opportunities for skill development and leadership. Because of this, the position requires a highly self-motivated and driven personality.

CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM MANAGER

Job Location: Kathmandu with frequent visits to construction sites

Current Project Sites: Nuwakot and Saptari

Main Roles and Responsibilities

  • Design of housing program, putting the people and their needs at the center of the program.
  • Construction management, working directly with contractors to produce high- quality delivery
  • Quality assurance of construction, including managing monitoring staff and taking initiative to find solutions to the problems that arise on the ground.
  • Working closely with social science and construction teams, including managing construction budget, preparing contracts, and preparing bid documents for the contractors.
  • Donor compliance, maintaining good relationships with contractors and government stakeholders at Palika level and federal level
  • Building the capacity of the organization on state-of-the-art construction, especially in the context of cost-effective and resilient housing, including research and innovation in construction.
  • Timely reporting of activities to the executive director of NIVAS and frequently communicating with the US-based team.
  • Support in the development of documents for the Social Welfare Council
  • Work with local government to take their input into the design and actively support the approval of design at the local level

Research

  • Continually focus on innovating on single women housing program by learning from other agencies and global discourse.
  • Continually refining approaches and housing designs for the housing program. Document all learning.
  • Support the team in proposal development, including proposals for grant funding. Actively provide input in the social science research program.

Visibility

  • Actively participate in NIVAS team photo/video sessions that capture the successes of the program. Including sharing stories from the field to be used for promotion.

Desired Background

  • 4 Year Degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering or Architecture. 4+ Years Experience in Design, Construction, and/or Project Management
  • Strong understanding of Nepal earthquake reconstruction program preferred Applications: Google Drive, Google Docs, Microsoft Office, AutoCAD
  • Fluent in written and oral Nepali and English

Personality/Disposition

  • Self-motivated ability to work alone and with remote/global co-workers
  • Willingness to travel to remote villages through local transportation or hiking. Where safety concerns exist, assistant, guide, or porter will be provided.
  • Comfortable with village lifestyle, including living with families during field visits and regular interactions with construction workers
  • Keen ability to form positive relationships with families, village leaders, and stakeholders Unwavering commitment to fairness, equity, and justice for all people
  • Keen understanding of Nepali culture from village to government to professional
