Institute of Himalayan Risk Reduction (IHRR) is an organization established with an objective to assess and understand the risk to contribute to sustainability. Complying with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction(SFDRR), IHRR envisions to understand the risk and application of interdisciplinary knowledge with Science, Engineering, Technology and Innovation to contribute for risk reduction and bridging of academic research with professionals and policymakers for sustainability. The team consists of professionals with expertise and experiences in the field of disaster risk management in understanding the risk, conducting academic research, and field-level implementations in Nepal and different parts of the world.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the team leader /program officer in necessary data compilation and project implementation-related activities.
  • Assist the program officer to pilot and manage Technologies in DRR related activities not limited to the use of open data, GIS, Drones, Virtual reality in different DRR preparedness and management-related initiatives.
  • Carry out GIS mapping (particularly risk, hazard, and vulnerability mapping) at a local level integrating data from several heterogeneous sources.
  • Assist the project team in designing training materials and organizing different DRR related training and capacity-building exercises.
  • Contribute to the handling and managing of Open-Source Data Inventory of IHRR.
  • Closely work with the technology development team in translating the project requirements into a technical document that is easily understandable for the technical team.
  • Proper documentation and data management for all activities and projects where they are engaged/involved. Involve in data collection activities both secondary and field-based primary data collection as per the needs of the project.
  • Stay updated with DRR related plans and policies, new innovative initiatives, and frontier technologies on DRR related interventions.


Requirements:

Technical Requirements

  • Strong interest in GIS, Remote Sensing, and ICT tools with a proven track record of using such tools for risks, hazard, and vulnerability mapping.
  • Sound knowledge of data collection and analysis using digital tools, open data sources, and their use in CCA and DRRM. Detailed knowledge of existing DRRM data portals, Disaster Information Management Systems (DIMS) in Nepal and across the globe.
  • Technical knowledge on how to map with OpenStreetMap.
  • Candidates with knowledge of Risk Modelling and simulation will be given high priority.

Soft Skills

  • Listens to others, correctly interprets messages from others, and responds appropriately.
  • Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals. Able to handle pressure with limited supervision.
  • Presentation skills and proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Power-Point would be a plus point.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in ICT/ GIS/ Engineering / Geology / Environment Science / Crisis Management with a focus on the introduction of technological innovations for enhanced DRR/M.
  • Masters running is preferrable
  • Basic idea on Presentation Skills, Digital tools like Mentimeter, Miro, or any other online tools would be a plus point.
