Nature of Organization:
The American Bar Association (ABA) is the representative body of the legal profession in the United States. It is the largest voluntary professional organization in the world with over 400,000 members, mainly lawyers and judges. It is a not-for-profit, non-governmental, and non-political organization.
A principal goal of the ABA is to promote the rule of law. To that end, the ABA implements rule of law programs in over 40 countries addressing such issues as judicial independence, legal reform and accountability, and access to justice.
The ABA Nepal Country Office commenced operations in early 2010, in coordination with local and foreign-based organizations, beginning with programs focused on building local forensic capacity and combating womens trafficking. The office is located in Thapathali near the Norvic Hospital.
Summary of Job Description:
The Finance Manager is the senior officer responsible for managing expenditures and balancing budgets for the office. He or she oversees the flow of all program grant funding; anticipates program budgetary needs and ensures adequate monies are available to support programs; records and reports periodically on all office expenditures; monitors expenditures by local partner organizations under any sub-grants; participates in an annual financial audit; ensures timely payment of office utility and phone bills, building rent, and other contractual services; manages the Office's bank accounts; and handles petty cash requests, reimbursements, and receipts.
Minimum Qualifications:
Masters degree in business administration or accounting or equivalent
Minimum 5 years work experience in a similar capacity
Strong financial monitoring, bookkeeping, and report writing skills
Strong command of English and Nepali, both spoken and written
High proficiency in computer skills, particularly with the MS Office package (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and ideally QuickBooks accounting software
Team player, innovative thinker, and good problem-solver
Dynamic, strong inter-personal skills, and willing and able to take initiative
Loyal, ethical, and committed to the office mission
General Contractual Conditions:
Contract is for a renewable one-year term
Salary and benefits package is competitive by small INGO standards
