Gramin Mahila Srijanshil Pariwar (GMSP) is a community based non-profit and non-government organization, located in Sindhupalchok district. It is established to work and advocate against human trafficking, slavery, gender based violence and to promote human rights, peace, women rights and child rights. Along with this, this organization it has been working for earthquake relief, reconstruction, WASH, education, income generating activities and mass awareness at present. The organization is seeking a qualified consultant/candidate to implement its new project Integrated Disaster Risk Reduction and WASH Project in Sindhupalchok.

Report to: Executive Director/ Program Manager

General description

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Expert will assist to design, development and implementation of WASH Project in 5 VDCs (Karthali, Marming, Mankha, Gati and Ghumthang) of Sindhupalchok. WASH Expert will be specially focused on feasibility survey to address the need of water and sanitation in the community and provide technical support, conduct situational analysis in the field. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible to conduct feasibility study and report the status of water and sanitation of the project VDCs
  • Critically assess WASH existing facilities and structures and recommend appropriate action along with environmental condition analysis and water supply processes from source to users, water collection, transportation and distribution, The incumbent will also find out the available water treatment and recommend the possible simple water treatment technology if needed.
  • Ensure integration of cross-cutting issues in the whole process of feasibility study from beginning (e.g. age, diversity, environment, gender, and social inclusion – with disability inclusive).
  • Facilitate participatory and community-based approaches during feasibility study.
  • The WASH expert will prepare and present feasibility study draft report and incorporate feedbacks and comments received.
  • Submit Final Report with recommendations on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion for action.
  • Act as focal person to WASH issues and liaise with relevant actors in different stages of WASH Feasibility Survey to follow up on agreements and recommendations.
  • Consolidate and provide technical guidance on water, sanitation and hygiene promotion related issues, to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, sustainability and environmental soundness
  • Prepare and conduct the baseline survey on the issue of WASH and DRR in close coordination with GMSP and preparation of report. 

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience:

  • A Bachelor's Degree (Master's Degree is highly preferable) in any discipline related to public health, environmental management, engineering, WASH.
  • 5 years of work experience in development sector with experience in the water and sanitation sector including 3 years water and sanitation project experience.
  • Proven experience in program development, management, including scheduling, budget development and budget management
  • Good understanding of Nepal’s national disaster management structure, systems, plans and priorities including sectorial emergency preparedness and response mechanisms
  • Knowledge of participatory approaches and community sensitization and mobilization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within different cultural & stressful environments
  • Demonstrated flexibility and creativity in planning and problem solving.
  • Experience with the development, implementation & compliance of donor funded programs would be an asset.
  • Ability to effectively represent GMSP and its interests to key stakeholders including host governments, and national and international NGOs.
  • Good written and spoken Nepali English
  • Ability to travel on short notice to project area.
  • Commitment to humanitarian principles and action.

It is contract based position and benefits will be as per the organizational rules.
