Lumanti Support Group for Shelter is a non-government organisation dedicated to the alleviation of urban poverty in Nepal through the improvement of shelter conditions. At Lumanti, shelter means the whole living environment, therefore, Lumanti's activities are wide-ranging. They include shelter upgrades, micro-finance, education and children's programmes, good governance, gender equity and advocacy. Lumanti means "memory" in the Newari language. The organization was established in 1993 in the memory of Ramesh Manandhar who died in a plane crash in 1992. Ramesh was a driving force behind moves in the early 1990's to raise awareness about urban poverty and shelter conditions.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Technical Supervisor

Reporting to: Programme Coordinator, Ratnanagar and Housing Manager, Kathmandu

Job Purpose: Support in building community capable to address socio-physical and economic issues

Project Period: 1 year

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the coordinator for the preparatory work for construction of houses.
  • Support Coordinator and community to ensure effective planning  and implementation of project in working area in Ratnanagar
  • Coordinate with VDCs, Municipalities and relevant stakeholders
  • Ensure promotion of participatory approach, community is well mobilised and project concept is well understood
  • Support and strengthen women groups and local organizations through saving and credit schemes
  • Ensure effective integration and mainstreaming of gender and the principle of 'inclusiveness'. 
  • Ensure that designs, drawings, and cost estimates for construction are prepared, checked and approved before expenses are incurred
  • Facilitate the community-led construction process in community
  • Ensure that all financial requirements and norms are met before making recommendation for payment of expenditures or settlement of accounts.
  • Contribute to the preparation of learning documents for knowledge management and publication.
  • Represent Lumanti in the meetings with stakeholders in the community as required   
  • Ensure that the planned trainings are timely implemented
  • Ensure well documentation of the process and products

KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Intermediate degree in engineering/architecture
  • Minimum 2 years work experience
  • Gender sensitive
  • Ability to work in the team and have the team work spirit
  • Experience on community housing programs and activities
  • Experience on socio and technical skill in working with community groups in housing and community development
  • Ability to work under pressure and ready to work long hours if required
  • Keen interest and commitment to support for community led development processes.
