The Kakani Centre for Development of Community (KCDC) is a non-governmental organization founded in 1993, and since then has implemented projects in the sectors of children trafficking, HIV/AIDS, child labor, health and nutrition, education, agriculture and disaster risk reduction with gender as a cross-cutting issue in partnership with Nepal government and other agencies. KCDC is now implementing the 'Humanitarian Assistance to People Affected by Earthquake' project in the VDCs of Nuwakot district in partnership of Oxfam GB. KCDC Nepal invites applications from all interested and potential Nepali candidates for the following position in our Humanitarian Assistance project:

Kakani Center for Development of Community - KCDC is a Community Based, relief, development and advocacy, Non-Governmental Organization, non-profit, non-political and Voluntary Service Organization (VSO) and it was created in 1993. Their entire staffs is mobilized daily to cover the basic needs of poor vulnerable children, women, marginalized or excluded by  the effects of natural disasters, wars and situations of economic collapse, poverty and injustice. KCDC is based in Bidur Chowk, operates in the areas of child development, women's empowerment, food security, health, nutrition, rehabilitation of infrastructure, shelter, water and sanitation (WASH) and economic recovery, education, elimination of child labor, safe migration, stop human trafficking, Fighting against CSEC and Recovery of Livelihood. With strong complementary technical expertise in the humanitarian field, international partner and KCDC and their common goal to provide a comprehensive response to emergency, health and nutrition, WASH, livelihood, awareness, school buildings construction, library erection, agro-forestry, child and women's empowerment, capacity building in Poor and Vulnerable Community in Nuwakot District by implementing different Program activities.

KCDC in partnership with Oxfam is implementing the Earthquake Recovery and Reconstruction Project in different VDCs of Nuwakot. KCDC is seeking to fill the following positions inviting applications from interested and highly motivated candidates.

Technical Officer / Overseer

Job Location: Dupcheshor Rural Municipality, Nuwakot (Field Base)

Reports to: Project Engineer

Job Description:

A Mobile Team comprising Project Engineer, Technical Officers, Social Mobilisers and Trained Masons will be provisioned to conduct door to door campaigns for providing technical assistance and awareness raising to the beneficiaries who are planning to construct their houses or are under construction phase. This support should be provided at local level and should cover technical, social, financial and policy/procedural aspects of the reconstruction. 

The primary purpose of the position is to enable earthquake affected families to rebuild houses complaint to government minimum requirements (MRs).

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Carry out households visit to provide technical supervision during the construction of houses of affected people.
  • Conduct community orientation and awareness rising session to provide information on technical, social, and financial and policy procedural of housing reconstruction.
  • Collect frequently asked questions, raise technical issue to project officers or to concern authority and share technical solutions back to the households.
  • Maintain proper documentation, a form is filled with personal details of the beneficiary supported, GPS Location of the house and other technical details of the building for future reference.
  • Facilitate affected people to get remaining trenches of housing grants.
  • Lead and manage the social mobilizers and masons team to provide door to door technical support.
  • Work closely with the Oxfam and partner staff during the supervision and awareness rising activities.
  • Coordinate with DLPIU engineers, local elected body, HRRP and other Partner Organization to facilitate affected people on reconstruction of houses.
  • Communicate and report to the Project Engineers about the progress/issues of field on reconstruction of damaged houses. 
  • Manage, run and provide required service from the information centers.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Project Engineers, Oxfam and Partners.

Skills and Competence: 

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering with three years experience in earthquake resistant building construction and supervision 
  • Good communication skills, ability to convey complex information in a straightforward, interesting way 
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relations with multicultural and multi ethnic community. 
  • Capacity to communicate technical topics in an easily understandable way and have capacity to stay in community.
