Environment and Public Health Organization Established in 1990, ENPHO is a service-oriented, scientific, national non-governmental organization that envisages contributing to sustainable community development by combining research and action through integrated programs in the fields of environment and public health. ENPHO runs a government accredited laboratory and promotes eco-friendly technologies with the aim of establishing eco-societies. ENPHO develops and promotes integrated community based approaches for safe water, sustainable sanitation, solid waste management, hygiene behavior and improving indoor air quality monitoring to create healthy societies. Furthermore, knowledge-based education and advocacy campaigns help on achieving ENPHO's mission.

Position: Senior Chemist 

Number of position:

Division: Laboratory and Production 

Minimum qualification: MSc in Chemistry (Environmental, Analytical)

Requiurement: minimum 3 years of post-degree experience in chemical laboratory, knowledge on ISO/IEC 17025. Team management and leadership experience, analytical capacity, demonstrated skills in data analysis, proposal and report writing and communication. 

Job Summary

Responsible for managing chemical analysts inside ENPHO laboratory and for maintaining correctness, quality, reliability and timeliness of chemical tests. Ensures staff involved in chemical analysis adhere to approved methods using prescribed manuals, procedures, SOPs and working instructions; maintains laboratory discipline and safety rules at all times. Plans, supervises and approves lab results. Assists the Technical Advisor in monitoring and planning of activities and equipment in the lab, in evaluation and improvement of staff skills. 

Responsibility

  • Ensure proper chemical analysis is properly conducted in the lab and quality system processes are followed as prescribed in manuals, procedures, SOPs and working instructions.
  • Provide regular orientation on working procedures and lab safety to relevant staff and closely monitor their activities.
  • Check analysis results for correctness and approve accordingly. 
  • Maintain relevant documents, manuals, SOPs and instructions in to lab for easy access to concerned staff.
  • Provide support in developing standard operating procedures, instructions for all laboratory works.
  • Implement instructions for verification/validation and for measuring uncertainty of methods used.
  • Assess the need for amendments and/or additional SOPs and instructions; initiate document amendment procedures when required.
  • Monitor data generation, calculation, transformation and recording.
  • Document non-conforming activities related to laboratory works, conduct or assist in root-cause analysis and formulate corrective action.
  • Report lab and equipment issues to senior officials.
  • Assist in internal/external auditing.
  • Assist in proposal writing, report writing, networking and communication as required.
