An exciting opportunity has arisen for the role of Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer in the Nepal Office of Adara Development, the international non-profit development arm of the Adara Group.

The Adara Group is a unique business-non-profit partnership. Adara Development specialise in maternal infant child health, children at risk, and remote and rural health and education. In Nepal we have worked in Humla since 2001 (implementing our holistic community development programmes); in Kathmandu we have worked since 2005 (in child protection and development); and in Nuwakot we have worked since 2015 in response to the Nepal Earthquakes.

We are looking for a person to work as the Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer (RMEO) within our Nepal Team, based 70% in Humla, with the remainder of their time divided between Kathmandu and Nuwakot.  The Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer will support the Nepal Country Director, the Nepal team, and the Sydney-based Impact Director, in shaping the monitoring, evaluation and associated research of our programmes. They will potentially also work with local research partners.

 

Overall job goal

Adara Development is committed to helping the people of Nepal to break the cycle of poverty, and works with families to improve health and education outcomes. The Research and Monitoring and Evaluation Officer (RMEO) will be mainly responsible for assisting the Adara Research, Monitoring and Evaluation (RME) team. The RMEO will assist with research, and implement monitoring and evaluation activities. She/ he will carry out data collection in Humla, Kathmandu, and Nuwakot, and will organize and keep data confidential to be used by the RME Department to understand needs and improve Adara’s work in Nepal. This role involves liaison with Adara staff, partner NGOs, government agencies, political and community leaders, community members, and other development partners, in Humla, Kathmandu, and Nuwakot.

Key responsibilities

The major responsibilities for the Nepal RMEO are:

1.     To conduct data collection for the RME Office

·         The RMEO will spend much of their time in Humla and other project villages, collecting data using a range of tools to will allow Adara to measure the impact of our work in communities.

·         The RMEO will respond to requests for data from the Impact Director, and adhere to the research, monitoring and evaluation framework and timelines of each project.

·         The RMEO will be based in Humla, with travel for periods of up to one month to other locations, depending on the sample specifications.

·         When the Impact Director visits Nepal to conduct monitoring and evaluation activities, the RMEO will accompany them in the field and act as translator/interviewer.

2.     To provide training and support to Nepal program partners (NGO, community) on the data required by the RME department

·         The RMEO will help train staff to digitize their quarterly data collection process in the Excel templates designed by the RME Department.

·         The RMEO will check the data for cleanliness and thoroughness before submitting data to the RME Department from all Adara Nepal programs, as well as partners that report to Adara.

3.     To assist the RME Department with data management

·         A work plan will be created by the Nepal Country Director and approved by the Impact Director.

·         The RMEO will organise and enter data from fieldwork into Excel and SPSS software packages.

·         The RMEO will conduct counts of open-ended responses and submit them to the Global Impact Director for database design.

4.     To assist RME communications with programme partners

·         The RMEO will hold weekly meetings with the Nepal Country Director and Global Impact Director to keep abreast of RME goals, and respond promptly to email, calendar, and Skype requests from the RME Department and Adara Global Support Office (GSO)

·         The RMEO will work with the Nepal Country Director to help clarify programme and RME objectives with staff, and to build staff and community ownership of RME processes.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor degree in Social Science, Public Health, Development Studies or related field
  • Experience in community development; minimum of 3 years’ experience in remote areas
  • Skilled and trained in M and E design and LogFrame, Theory of Change or other M&E frameworks
  • Proven skills in data collection, consultation with community, report writing and documentation
  • Experience working with Excel, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and SPSS software
  • Fluency in spoken and written English, fluency in Nepali and Hindi, and knowledge of local customs
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to communicate with people from all social positions, ability to listen with humility when interacting with all peoples
  • Strong interpersonal skills including ethical sensitivity
  •  Proficiency in MS Office, including Word and Excel
  • Good team player with strong organisational skills who can meet tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to complete repetitive and at times tedious data management tasks
  •  Willingness for extensive and frequent ravel to remote areas like Humla
  • Ability to triangulate data (using different sources or questions to elicit multiple, true, and/or complex perspectives)
