One Heart Worldwide (OHW) is an International Non-Governmental Organization that has been working in the area of Maternal and Neonatal Health (MNH) since 2011. OHW works with local communities and local health service providers to develop a culturally appropriate Network of Safety around mothers and infants, by raising awareness, teaching good practices, and distributing essential equipment to ensure that mothers and infants survive delivery and the first months of life.

Position: Program Officer (Research Coordination)

Report To: Program Director 

Location: Kathmandu, OHW Country Office

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND MAIN DUTIES:

Leadership & Management

  • Work with Program Director to develop annual implementation plan for all innovative projects and research studies.
  • Work closely with M&E team to monitor and report on innovative projects and research studies.
  • Interact with the district based program staff to monitor program progress and achievements. Identify and document key issues, lessons learned and best practices.
  • Coordinating closely with the Ministry of Health, partners and stakeholders for data planning, identification of data sources, and collection of data for monitoring purposes and result dissemination of the research/pilot projects.
  • Be a point contact for the special projects designated by the program team.
  • Serve as liaison/point of contact with the external partners for each special project.
  • Participate in meetings and represent OHW as required.

Technical

  • Prepare and review status/progress reports to partners, which may include analysis of study findings. 
  • Review, edit, and obtain appropriate approvals for pilot projects. 
  • Prepare a clear work/implementation plans for each innovative activity or research project. 
  • Monitor each individual activity/research and prepare periodic reports.
  • Data Collection and Analysis– Assist in data collection efforts, which take place before, during, and after study intervention. Address concerns from data respondents and respond to requests for information.
  • Promote use of data to inform decision making and link evidence-based approaches to achievement of results
  • Liaison with program staff for smooth implementation, monitoring and report on the innovative activity or research.
  • Develop program and operational reporting templates that facilitate the acquisition and aggregation of information in programs.
  • Track program progress against indicators and ensure early identification of any areas requiring necessary action.
  • Develop effective information database on assigned projects, providing resource and necessary support for program inputs and outputs.
  • Manage all the study and modifications and maintain records associated with studies.
  • Develop and disseminate programmatic materials.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATION:

  • Education: Master’s degree in public health or related field with focus on doing research.
  • Prior Work Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of progressively professional experience in conducting and analyzing data collection, preparing and disseminating research results and finding. Experience and skills in creating databases to store and analyze data on multiple innovative activities and research projects.
  • Language: (fluent) in English and Nepali 

4. Skills and Abilities:

  • Understanding of the Nepal health sector and familiarity with public health issues in Nepal and with HMIS, MoH.
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to summarize disparate information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Excellent data collection methodology skills.
  • Ability to lead and coordinate multiple activities with minimum supervisor.
  • Strong organizational skills in order to balance competing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently to efficiently meet deadlines. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Oral and written communication skills to deal effectively with mid and high-level partner contacts, the host government, and the local communities.
  • Excellent computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheet programs and statistical data analysis applications.
