MERCY CORPS OVERVIEW

Mercy Corps is an international, non-governmental humanitarian relief and development agency that exists to alleviate suffering, poverty and oppression by helping people to build secure, productive and just communities. Mercy Corps was established in 1979, and has worked in over 100 countries. Mercy Corps began its operation in Nepal in 2005, with projects focusing on the sectors of economic and food security; climate, natural resource and disaster risk management; youth engagement; with the inclusion of women and disadvantaged groups as important cross-cutting themes throughout each intervention area. Mercy Corps Nepal works to build the absorptive, adaptive and transformative potential of vulnerable individuals and communities across Nepal. The goal is attained through a systems based approach to market development, financial services, disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation and youth engagement. 

Mercy Corps has been implementing Sustainable Access to Finance and Livelihoods II (SAFAL II) in the East (Panchthar, Taplejung, Tehrathum, Sankhuwasabha and Bhojupur districts )  for sustainable increase in income and access to finance opportunities of those living in Nepal's rural and remote areas, bringing about a systemic transformation in the delivery and access of financial services. Financial Literacy Training has been one of the main activities of the project. 

Mercy Corps’ financial literacy training model has been developed in 2013, specifically for the context of rural Nepal and all the training materials used are in Nepali language. Since 2013, the materials have been revised and refined incorporating the feedback from the participants and other stakeholders and being used across different projects/programs of Mercy Corps Nepal. 

In order to make the FLT materials available for wider stakeholders and other Mercy Corps program countries, these materials need to be translated into English. Therefore, Mercy Corps is seeking a consultant/s for translating 4 books related to FLT.   

Purpose / Project Description:

The overall purpose of this consultancy is to translate financial literacy training text books and manuals from Nepali to English which are assets of Mercy Corps. 

Translator’s Key Responsibilities 

The consultant will be responsible for:

  • Translating the following FLT materials from Nepali to standard English language keeping pictorials as they are:
  • YFLT Text Book-90 pages
  • YFLT Training Manual- 62 pages
  • FLT Text book-196 pages
  • FLTManual-164 pages 
  • Submission of the draft of translated books to MC for review and feedbacks
  • Incorporate feedback/comments from Mercy Corps, if any.
  • Submission of the finalized translation of 4 books in Word Copies

Key deliverables:

  • Draft of translated copy of: 
  1. YFLT Text Book 
  2. YFLT Training Manual
  3. FLT Text Book 
  4. FLT Training Manual
  • Final translated copies of 4 books. 

QUALIFICATIONS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES 

  • Well versed in Nepali to English translation.
  • Good understanding in financial literacy contents.
  • Good interpretation skills of pictures with text message.
  • Motivated to workindependentlyand abilityto meetdeadlines.

Eligibility Criteria for Consultant/s for submission of RFP:

  • Proposal mentioning translation experience, familiarity of financial literacy contents and materials used in Nepal and per page Nepali to English translation rate
  • CV of translator/s
  • Copy of sample translation from Nepali to English
  • Duration required to submit the draft translation and finalization of translation after comments/feedback from Mercy Corps
  • Copy of firm registration, renewal, VAT registration and Tax Clearance, if the applicant is a firm.

Firms/Individuals interested in this consultancy should submit a Letter of Interest, proposal and resume to np-procurement@mercycorps.org no later than 20thMarch, 2018 COB. Bid documents can be downloaded from the same day of the publication of notice. The incomplete bid documents or bid documents received after closing date will not be considered. 

Only shortlisted organizations and individuals will be contacted for further process. Canvassing at any stage of the process shall lead to automatic disqualification of the application.  Mercy Corps reserves the right to accept or reject any or all proposals without assigning any reason.
