Mercy Corps is an international, non-governmental humanitarian relief and development agency that exists to alleviate suffering, poverty and oppression by helping to build secure, productive and just communities. Mercy Corps works amid disasters, conflicts, chronic poverty and instability to support people, communities and organizations that can bring about positive change.

Every year Nepal faces flooding and landslides triggered by heavy rain during the monsoon season. These disasters cause catastrophic losses in agricultural land, property, and loss of life for local communities. To mitigate the effect of these disasters, the Managing Risk through Economic Development (MRED) program is testing an innovative “nexus” approach that combines traditional community-based disaster risk reduction (DRR) approaches with economic and market development interventions. MRED piloted the innovative ‘nexus’ model to integrate disaster risk reduction (DRR) and market systems development (MSD), in an effort to incentivize sustainable DRR activities while giving vulnerable communities an opportunity to increase their incomes.

The purpose of the contract is to work with the Mercy Corps Nepal team to analyze the post-shock monitoring data and work with the resilience measurement advisor on interpretation of the results.

  • Conduct data analysis based on predetermined analysis plan
  • Write up the findings of the resilience measurement research
