request for Proposal (To implement an end line survey for Building Livelihood and Improving Nutrition of Women and Children project) Building Livelihood and Improving Nutrition of Women and Children is a project implementing by Manohari Development Institute Nepal in support of WFP and Embassy of Denmark with technical assistance from Helen Keller International (HKI) Nepal . The project was implemented from June 2010 for 24 months in seven VDCs of 3500 food insecure households in Udayapur district, Nepal. In partnership with MDI, WFP has been supporting food for assets activities in Udayapur, through its Relief and Recovery Operations (PRRO). The project funding from the Embassy of Denmark built on WFP’s food for assets activities and merged two proven approaches for addressing complementary and critical facets of malnutrition in Nepal and throughout the developing world: food security and nutrition knowledge and behavior. The project aims to replicate HKI’s Homestead Food Production model which is already being implemented in Kailali and Baitadi districts in Nepal’s Far-Western region, with the objective to increase households’ year-round access to nutritious food and provide education for improved nutrition and feeding practices. The overall goal of this project is to build an integrated food security, livelihood and nutrition model in food-insecure households to improve the nutritional status of children under five years and women in Udaypur district. HKI invites proposals from qualified Nepali research firms to implement an end line survey for Building Livelihood and Improving Nutrition of Women and Children project. A thirty cluster sampling method will be used and data will be collected for the calculated sample size among children under five years of age and their mothers. Data will be collected on socioeconomic status, household food security and production practices, access to health services and water and sanitation, infant and young child feeding practices and nutrition knowledge. The prospective research firm is expected to start the end line survey from mid March, 2012 and will be responsible for collection of primary data, data entry, data analysis and report production. Interested research firm should submit the proposal along with PAN/VAT certificate, yearly financial audit report and tax clearance certificates and all other relevant legal documents for example organization registration and renewal certificate.
