The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), an independent humanitarian organization whose mandate is to provide protection and assistance for victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence has a vacancy for the following position based in Nepalgunj (with extensive field travel to hilly districts of Mid & Far Western districts):  

Job Position: Psychosocial Field Officer

Main Duties:

IMPLEMENTATION OF COMPREHENSIVE PSYCHOSOCIAL (HATEYMALO) PROGRAM 

  • Works closely with HATEYMALO team of Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) for the successful implementation of HATEYMALO program in the assigned districts of Mid and Far-western Regions
  • Defines activities with trained "accompaniers" to respond to the needs of the families of the Missing including specialised psychological needs 
  • Assess the resources at local/district level, coordinate with local implementing partners,  I/NGOs/Community Based Organisations /Family Associations to mobilise their resources to address the multifaceted needs of the beneficiaries
  • Provides technical support and advices to the accompaniers and supervisors in conducting support groups, counselling of individual cases and family intervention through psycho-education.
  • Encourages, advices and supports the accompaniers in their tasks to develop active network and to approach community leaders for sensitization issues, as well as for the implementation of the support groups activities and home visits. 
  • Monitors the progress of individuals in need of additional mental health care
  • Ensures proper reporting on all the psychosocial activities
  • Assist  on data management, cleaning, analysis and submit the synthesized reports
  • Contributes to identify mothers, wives,  children and fathers of the Missing in need of assistance, assess their needs and supports on vocational training/micro credit schemes, legal and administrative assistance, income-generation and other existing supports
  • Presents synthesis of problems succinctly and accurately;
  • Knows the ICRC activities in general and the activities regarding the Family of Missing persons in particular, and is able to explain it to external interlocutors (CDOs, VDC secretaries, NGOs, traditional social structures in the communities, etc.)

Minimum required knowledge & experience:

  • Graduate degree in Psychology or Social Work.
  • 6 months Training on Psychosocial Counselling 
  • 3-4 years’ experience in the psychosocial field including case management and counselling supervision
  • Fluent in written and spoken English & Nepali languages
  • Team leadership skills
  • Good knowledge of the geographically assigned environment
  • Good analytical skills
  • Listening skills and ability to display empathy during interviews 
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to be at ease in front of public 

Personal Qualities:

The interested candidates should be highly organized and creative, should have the ability to work under tight deadlines, to deal with different people and organizations, and be ready to travel whenever required. Team spirit and interest in humanitarian work is must. Knowledge of working with the different people & society is an added value.
