The International Organization for Migration is seeking qualified Nepali National for the following position based in Kathmandu.

Position Title: Psychosocial Community Mobiliser - 1 position 

Classification: Ungraded

Type of contract: SST, 3 months with possibility of extension, 

In response to the major humanitarian crisis caused by an earthquake in Nepal, IOM is mobilizing staff, including health professionals, to assist the existing IOM psycho-social team, in the recovery efforts of the earthquake affected areas.

GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

Under the overall guidance of the IOM Nepal Emergency Health Team Leader for administrative matters and under the direct supervision of the Emergency Psychosocial Focal Point for technical matters, the incumbent will be responsible for implementation of psychosocial components of the Relief, Recovery and Rehabilitation program. 

In particular, he/she will: 

  • Assist the multi-disciplinary psycho-social team to map community, government and non-government groups and structures in IDP camps and affected districts in order to:

a. Create clear referral pathways and contact lists

b. Draw on community participation and strengths for incorporation into program design

c. Inform IDP’s and other stakeholders of available services

d. Identify gaps in existing structures

  • Make individual, family, group and community based psycho-social needs assessments for:

a. Referral to individual counselling and group based interventions, and/ or external services

b. Incorporation into project design and intervention planning

c. Providing psychosocial support & counselling to the affected population

d. Provide psychological first aid (if required)

  • Gather existing and new community groups and facilitate (in collaboration with the team) sessions that:

a. Establish relationships and cooperation with village level authorities and humanitarian actors to ensure and Inform IDP’s and other stakeholders of available services

b. Identify opportunities for capacity building of local authorities and communities

c. Inform and educate IDP’s about various aspects of psycho-social health and wellbeing

d. Provide relaxation, recreation and art based interventions that assist in easing community and individual stresses and tension

e. Provide on-going support structures for the community

  • In collaboration with the team:

a. Report on field interventions conducted

b. Plan daily field interventions

c. Assist in monitoring field activities

d. Provide training to field teams from other units and partners 

e. Work in temporary settlement sites and travel to remote areas if required

  • Any other duties as may be assigned 

Required Qualifications and Competencies: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or related discipline particularly in psychology, social work,  counselling psychology
  • Two years of previous experiences direct intervention or programs in social work, community development, psychology or counselling in emergencies
  • Experience working within community structures to map, analyse, plan and communicate interventions
  • Good communication, interpersonal and organizational skills;  
  • Ability to draft clearly and concisely;  
  • Demonstrated gender awareness and gender sensitivity;  
  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds;
