Child Nepal (CN) in partnership with PlaneteEnfants and Developpment (PED) is implementing Better Future for Mother and Children (BFMC) Project in Gongabu area of Kathmandu. The project has three major flagship areas i.e. Gender Equality, ECD and Advocacy.  The project aims to work with mothers working in entertainment sector and their children with an objective to promote gender equality and protection women against exploitation and create a long-term conditions fostering an environment conducive to the development of young children

Psycho Social Counsellor- 1 Position

Purpose: The Psycho Social Counsellor will be responsible in providing counselling service to mother working in entertainment sector who are victims or at risk of any kind of vulnerability so as to divert them and engage in other profession. In addition, thePsycho Social counsellor will be engaged in counselling children in the ECD centre. 

Term and Location: Fixed term employment till March 2018 based in Kathmandu with the possibility of extension.

Required Qualifications and Experiences:

  • Bachelor degree or Post Graduate in Psychology,
  • At least two year experience in the relevant areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and update the required tools and techniques of counselling.
  • Establish a relationship of trust and respect with children and women (clients)
  • Agree a counselling contract to determine what will be covered in sessions (including confidentiality issues)
  • Encourageclients to talk about issues they feel they cannot normally share with others
  • Actively listen to concerns of clients and empathise with their position
  • Accept without bias the issues raised by clients
  • Help clients towards a deeper understanding of their concerns
  • Challenge any inconsistencies in what clients say or do
  • Help clients to make decisions and choices regarding possible ways forward
  • Refer clients to other sources of help, as appropriate
  • Attending supervision and training courses
  • Undertake personal therapy (mandatory for accreditation)
  • Liaise, as necessary, with other agencies and individuals to help make changes based on the issues raised by clients
  • Undertake group as well as individual therapy as planned by the project
  • Keep records of the clients and update regularly
  • Compile significant case stories/success stories
  • Report to the Project coordinator of the clients served through the project
