Position: Program Officer - Education

Reports To: Program Manager - Education Scholarships

PURPOSE OF THE POST

The primary purpose of this position is to work for wellbeing of impoverished children/youth supported by Nepal Youth Foundation through education scholarships while also work closely for their academic excellence/enhancing skills required for them to be responsible and competent individuals.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Understand the program strategy and priority sector where scholarships are to be provided. Accordingly, make efforts to identify the deserving children/youth for scholarship by making site visits, accessing their familial status (as per the program parameters), and coordinate with local government bodies as needed, develop case studies and forward to the Program Manager for scholarship decisions.
  2. Carry out Monitoring and Evaluation of academic performance and progress of children/youth enrolled under NYF’s scholarship, Visit the schools of the students, check their monthly attendance as well as tidiness of the students, consult with their teacher(s) at least once in a month to get knowledge of his/her condition of studies. Find out drawbacks/weaknesses if any, and find out proper option for eliminating or at least minimizing the weaknesses. Manage coordination meeting among the Steering committee members and the school teachers to discuss on improving quality of education in the school. Encourage to imply the positive conclusion as far as possible.
  3. Encourage and facilitate the children/youth for their academic excellence while also to get them involved in extracurricular activities and other creative works. Accordingly plan/support for their extracurricular activities to engage them fully.
  4. Discuss on the half yearly and annual result of each and every student among the teachers, parents/guardians and the concerned student.
  5. Make field visits interact with local community, government agencies on issues pertaining to the children/youth whether for their protection and/or re-integration possibilities.
  6. As needed, make thorough assessment for new case of child requiring protection/support and develop accordingly case studies (indicating the need and situation).
  7. Draft and submit case study reports, sponsor letters and other documents as deemed necessary and as required for internal as well as external purpose.
  8. Ensure that data/reports required for every scholar are kept up to date and the information are updated and verified on timely basis. Fill up the progress report of each scholar in the form provided from Central Office. As and when required prepare necessary work status reports/detailed records of the task performed, achievement obtained and submit to the supervisor.
  9. Represent the organization at meetings/forums/workshops as and when necessary
  10. And any other tasks as suggested by the Supervisor for the best interest of organization and the program.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Personal behaviour & morale:
    • Always exhibit himself/herself as a model character inspiring others to be a person with high human value and maintain professional ethics, must not use alcohol and smoke, must not practice any sorts of irregularities.
    • Be fair, honest and accurate in observation/analysis, must not be biased and oppressive to any other cast, religion, politics, or any other principles.
    • Always be positive and optimistic to bring positive change from what s/he is doing, take feedback from all and select appropriate information to make informed decision.
  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Strong communication & interpersonal skills (both in English and Nepali), sound confidence and ability to build strong rapport with children from diverse backgrounds, agreeable & adaptive to changes, flexible working in off hours.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline (preferably in Social Work/Education)

Experience: At least 2 Years of relevant working experience

Knowledge: Well acquainted with program management, child protection-development and documentation.

Duty Station: Lalitpur (with frequent field visits)

Language: Bilingual, English and Nepali.

Others: Must possess two wheeler (motorbike) driving license.
