Jevaia establishes sustainable, community-based rural dental clinics and school-based oral health prevention in the Kaski, Parbat, Lamjung, and Baglung districts.

The Kaski Oral Health Care Project has been operating since 2006.  We establish sustainable, community-based dental care and prevention in rural areas.  Our project will be operating in 14 villages in 2015, covering an area of approximately 54,000 people.  (www.evanepal.org/kaski-oral-health-care-project)

The Program Director reports to the Executive Director, and is responsible for country operations and management of the Kaski Oral Health Care Project.  We have a small staff, so good teamwork and leadership skills are essential.  

This job requires irregular hours and significant periods, including overnights, in rural areas.  The PD comes at an exciting time, and will transition KOHCP in to an increasingly data-driven, replicable model, as well as build connections in the health, education, government and private sectors.

  • Plan and implement of programs in the 6-10 villages where we are operating at any given time.
  • Supervise and support a central field officer, and local staff in the field.
  • Communicate with EVA Nepal through scheduled reporting and Skype meetings, and to take initiative in sharing important program information outside of scheduled communication.
  • Ensure that program and financial documents are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Frequent site visits to village-based projects.
  • Coordination between village-based staff, social and government leaders, the district health office, the district education office, and the central government. 
  • Hire, train, motivate, and monitor staff members. 
  • Work with the field officer to create and teach a frequent trainings and workshops for field staff. 
  • Expand KOHCP’s network of partner organizations and sponsors by actively seeking new opportunities for partnership and funding, and to cultivate and maintain existing partnerships, including the Government of Nepal, INGOs/NGOs, and professional dental associations and groups.
  • Work with supervisor and board members to adapt KOHCP’s existing program model in to an increasingly replicable format that can be used by other organizations and governments in the public health sector.

 

Qualifications:

1. Experience: Substantial experience with community work and an understanding of the challenges of rural health are essential.  Work history should reflect sound management capabilities, as well as leadership qualities focusing on team work and program implementation.  The candidate must have a demonstrated ability to work in a rural setting, with locally based staff. 

2. Education: Degree in Public Health or Health Education, and direct experience as a teacher or trainer.  Certain candidates with degrees in Public Administration may also be considered.


3. Professional skills, Attitudes and Behavior:

  • Strong organization, interpersonal, and communication skills in Nepali and English 
  • Writing in both Nepali and English
  • Teaching and training skills
  • Good-natured and creative – can enhance our culture of fun and imagination
  • Knowledge of government systems and procedures at village, district, and national levels
  • Responsive, flexible, and adaptive; thrives in an often unpredictable environment
  • Persistent problem-solver, willing to cover responsibilities where needed
  • Strong decision-making skills
  • Concientous, punctual, detail-orientated
  • Passion for the mission of the project

4. Computer skills: Microsoft Word, e-mail, internet, Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint, and ability to learn Salesforce (an online database) is required.  Experience with survey design, implementation and data analysis strongly preferred.  Expereince with grantwriting also a plus.

5. Contract details:

  • Initial two-year commitment required
  • Must be willing to move to Pokhara
  • Salary commesurate with experience
