Action Works Nepal (AWON) is an NGO duly registered at the District Administration Office, Kathmandu in 2010 under the NGO Registration Act,2034 B.S. It is also affiliated with the Social Welfare Council in Kathmandu. AWON’s coordination office is located in Kathmandu with district offices situated in four other districts– Jumla, Mugu, Kalikot and Kavrepalanchowk. Program Coordinator (based in Kathmandu with frequent field visits to project areas) - 1

Key responsibilities: The Program Coordinator is a senior position responsible to provide a leadership on program development, project implementation and to ensure financial and administrative management of AWON is effective, efficient and according to the agreed standards. Preferred Qualifications and Experiences: Bachelors Degree (Preferably a Masters Degree) in Social Science or management or related subjects with and at least 5 years working experience on program design.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Program Coordinator -1

Reports to: Executive Board (President), AWON  

Staff Reporting: Project Coordinators/Managers, Project Officers, Finance/Admin Officer

Duty Station: Kathmandu, Nepal 

Major Responsibilities:

The Program Coordinator is a senior position responsible to provide a leadership on program development, project implementation and to ensure financial and administrative management of AWON is effective, efficient and according to the agreed standards. The incumbent reports to an assigned person of the Executive Board. Major responsibilities of this position are as follows:

Major Responsibilities

  • Project planning and implementation
  • Ensure project planning including budgeting are taking place on time and following standard quality
  • Regularly review program quality and financial burn rate of all projects
  • Ensure the project is delivering expected outputs, outcomes and impacts as agreed with donors and according to a level of expectation

Fund Raising 

  • Identify areas of programmatic  and organizational growth, and explore and track all funding opportunities 
  • Take a lead role in designing new projects in different thematic areas of the organization 
  • Mobilize staff, board members and volunteers to generate information for project design, proposal writing and follow-up

Coordination and Representation

  • Collaborate with internal and external partners, and stakeholders to advocate and promote organizational and program issues
  • Represent at donors meetings, conferences and networking events with funding agencies, project partners, Government of Nepal, donors and other interested parties, as required and other stakeholders as and when necessary.
  • Organize regular meetings with staff program, & finance and administration team. 

Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting 

  • Monitor and support in the implementation of program to enhance field staff capacity, ensure the quality of program and coordination with national level stakeholders as well as to support district team for the effective management of program, finance and administration.
  • Ensure all planned activities in each program are implemented in line with expected results and provide support for improvement as necessary through conducting and managing periodic review from district to national level.
  • Communicate the project related information regularly with donor (if require), AWON’s Executive Board, external stakeholders as and when required.
  • Finalize and submit narrative report to donors and oversee finance reports before submission to funding partners

Operational Management

  • Provide overall leadership, management of human resource, direction and supervision in implementation of program, organizational plans for consistent and timely progress in order to achieve the organizational goal and objective. 
  • Set an organizational system in accordance with "Generally Accepted Accounting Principles" and projects donor requirement as well as project contract. 
  • Manage programs for results in a complex multi-actor, multi-donor, and multi-tasking environment
  • Provide oversight to all financial aspects of the organization including budgetary processes, audits, cash flow management and financial analysis, ensuring that efficient and accurate financial structures are in place.
  • Ensure field operation and project implementation in the remote areas – especially in Karnali based office is effective with proper mobilization of human and financial resources,

Staff Management

  • Identify staffing needs of all projects and programs at both office and in the projects
  • Involve in staff recruitment, orientation and placement
  • Supervise both program and program support staff at country office and in the field based projects
  • Make sure line management of all staff is effective and performance management system is in place
