Terms of Reference - Partnership Coordinator

Background

A Global Partnership to support Children and Youth Participation in Peacebuilding involving Save the Children, Search for Common Ground, World Vision, PATRIR and the United Network of Young Peacebuilders (UNOY) is supporting a multi-country evaluation of children and youth participation in peace building. In Nepal a Country Partnership to Support Children and Youth Participation in Peacebuilding are launching the call for a Partnership Coordinator to support to Country Evaluator in implementing a comprehensive participatory evaluation of peacebuilding projects and programmes done with and for children and youth in Nepal.

A steering committee has been formed consisting of representatives from Save the Children, Search for Common Ground,  World Vision Nepal, Alliance for Peace, Jagriti Child and Youth Concern Nepal, and Youth Network for Peace and Development Mahotarri. Search for Common Ground Nepal will be the secretariat in implementing the project in Nepal.

Summary of Position

Under the supervision of the steering committee and country evaluator, the Coordinator will be responsible for the overall management, administration and delivery of the Partnership Project activities. He/she will provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to the steering committee, including drafting correspondence, taking minutes, organizing meetings and seminars, making travel arrangements and related tasks. The position will be based in Kathmandu and will include essential travel to the field. The position will start in 1st week of November 2014 and she/he will be appointed for eight months (with a 1-month probation period). S/he will report to the Country Evaluator, and work closely with the steering committee’s members and local partner(s). Specifically, the incumbent will:

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Organize project workshops/meetings at central and district levels and prepare minutes of all the meetings/workshops;
  • Communicate regularly with the Local Evaluation Team members, Country Partnership steering group members, Advisory Team members, the Global Lead Evaluator(s) and the 3M global project manager;
  • Support Country Evaluator for the formation of Local Evaluation Teams involving child and youth representatives;
  • Support Country Evaluator in inclusive, safe and ethical participation of children and youth through all stages of data collection, data storage, coding, analysis, documentation, reporting and advocacy;
  • Providing monthly narrative reports on developments, activities and other relevant issues within the framework of the project;
  • Build networks and partnership(s) with concerned agencies at the national, district, and local levels in accordance with the project objectives to establish a sustainable partnership supporting children and youth participation in peacebuilding (including government and non- government organizations,  community based organizations, youth and child led organisations);
  • Encourage relevant agencies to complete the online mapping (approach I) of the evaluation
  • Ensure that all the activities including meetings and consultations are organized as per the project’s time frame;
  • Work in close coordination with steering committee members and country evaluator for the preparation of detailed project work plans and execution of different activities at central and district level;
  • Support Country Evaluator in preparation of progress reports and respond to the queries related to project;
  • Planning and programming for capacity building needs related to project activities for local partners;
  • Provide project related technical briefs, manuals, case studies, best practices;
  • Assist Steering Team members in identifying, cultivating relationships with, and pursuing new funding to nurture ongoing and sustainable efforts of the Country Partnership to support children and youth participation in peacebuilding
  • Make field visits to project sites as per the requirement of the project.

Experiences and Qualifications

  • At least 2 year of applied experience in project management or development programs; 
  • Experience of working with Government officials, local communities, youth and child led organization, and/or donors at all levels;
  • Experience in child, youth and peacebuilding, monitoring and evaluation, and coordinating research activities;
  • Community leadership and mentoring skills: able to support, motivate and liaise effectively with villagers,  community groups, child and youth groups;
  • Sound cross-cultural, gender-awareness, interpersonal, collaborative work style and networking skills;
  • Competence on Planning, organization, problem analysis and team work;
  • Proven ability to write reports, develop budgets and prepare acquittals;
  • Strong knowledge of computer applications (MS Office and other database programs);
  • Strong command of English and Nepali language, with excellent writing skills and able to generate high quality progress reports;
  • Fundraising skills;
  • At least Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline and training on project management.
