Jevaia Oral Health Care has been operating since 2006 (formerly known as Kaski Oral Health Care Project).  The project establishes sustainable, community-based dental care in rural areas.  Currently JOHC has established nine rural dental clinics, andcovers a working area of 60,000 people.  We are advocating with the government to see our rural dentistry model replicated through the Health Ministry in all of Nepal’s health posts.

The Medical Field Officer (MFO) is responsible for supervising clinics and referral hospitals, vendor outreach, supply management, and clinic promotion.  The MFO will also work with the Education Field Officer on a village-wide oral health promotion strategy, primarily through school-based programs and creative community mobilization activities.  

This is a community-oriented job that requires significant field time and irregular hours, including overnights in rural areas.  The candidate should be prepared to walk long distances, hold meetings sitting in the grass, and stay overnight in simple conditions.

The MFO will:

  • Frequently visit clinics to supervise operation and infection control.
  • Support Medical Supervisors (veteran technicians).
  • Manage supply chain and inventory for clinics and field programs.
  • Conduct workshops for village Teams on vendor outreach.
  • Organize VDC opening ceremonies and other activities to promote local clinics.
  • Develop media content and publicity opportunities for JOHC at local, district and national level.
  • Setup and facilitate annual Medical Audit conducted by doctor.
  • Administrative duties including communications, data entry, contributing to reports on program activities
  • Support coordination with District Health Office.
  • Submit monthly VDC reports filled out by Teams and referral hospital treatment logs.

Qualifications:

  • Dental Hygienist degree
  • Experience in health promotion and community mobilization in rural areas.Demonstrated ability to work in a rural setting with local staff.
  • Experience coordinating with government agencies and offices.
  • Understanding of program implementation procedures, such as planning, monitoring, and report writing. 

  • Excellent written and spoken English.

  • Excellent team player with a positive attitude, can contribute to a productive environment in an office of just four people.
  • Self-motivated, focused, well-organized, confident decision-maker.  MFO is responsible for leading allmedicalmonitoring in the field.
  • Adaptable, problem-solver, self-motivated to learn new skills, willing to cover responsibilities where needed
  • Creative and outgoing
  • Very comfortable in rural settings, with knowledge of local government processes
  • Thrives in an often unpredictable environment
  • Conscientious, punctual, detail-orientated
  • Strong writing in both Nepali and English

Computer skills: Microsoft Word, e-mail, Internet, Microsoft Excel, and Dropbox.  Ability to create and format program reports strongly preferred.

Contract details:

  • Initial two-year commitment required
  • Must be willing to move to Pokhara
  • Salary commensurate with experience
