Voice Of Children

Voice of Children (VOC), a Nepalese NGO, working with street children and deprived families in urban poor areas. Voice of Children (VOC) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization established on November 2000 with a mission to contribute for the improvement of the living condition of the Street Children and their families in Nepal. The organization mainly focuses on those children, who suffer from various kinds of problems such as sexual abuse, harassment and other forms of violence and exploitation in the street and strives to re-establish them in the society with special attention to their needs and rights. Assistance in different ways and through different programs focused on the enhancement of the physical, mental, social and financial condition is catered to the needy street children and their families in order to reshape their lives.

Details / requirements:

A national level Nepalese NGO (Voice of Children) recognized nationally and internationally for its work in Child Protection, invites application for the following positions from qualified and result oriented Nepali citizen to successfully manage and implement a three year project on Combating commercial sexual exploitation of children: Preventing and protecting children against online sexual abuse.  

Position: Media In charge -1 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate in producing creative programs such as Public Service Announcement (audio and visual), songs, music video, mobile application T.V programs on the issue of Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) and Sexual Exploitation of Children Online (SECO). To formulate and implement media activity in order to raise awareness and ensure that all media communications activity (i.e. press, radio TV, website, online/social media activity) is integrated with SECO project 
  • Planning, budgeting, developing the programs related to media. Ensure that radio programs and other program component is delivered on time, on budget and according to the program requirements.
  • Coordinate with media, produce and broadcast the program in coordination with radio stations, Scripting, material collection and finalizing the contents. Monitor emerging trends in social media using various tools and applications and share them with the management
  • To advise and select the best use of media and overall communications channels as required for the successful execution of campaigns.  
  • Enhance the capacity of website, create link for social media and archive all the radio program in website. To ensure key messages are accurately and consistently expressed in relevant media.
  • To be responsible for checking drafts, scripts, reviewing copy, pretesting and post testing of tools, reviewing plans and making amendments.
  • Coordinate and consult with different beneficiaries, listener club, youth group before producing radio programs, PSA, child rhymes/songs etc.
  • Manage presence in social networking sites including facebook, twitter and other similar community sites, seeding content into social applications as needed.
  • Track and report complains on social platforms to concerned operations head and communicate remedial action to complainant  
  • To advise and select the best use of media and overall communications channels as required for the successful execution of campaigns. 
  • Communicate campaign plans; communicate to members of the Executive Team. Work closely with Director, Program Coordinator and Media team(EL) 
  • Liaising and Networking with external bodies and work to ensure accuracy of information regarding SECO on external websites and publications. Build and support positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders including the radio, community F.M, local broadcasters, NGOs and government officials
  • Analyse and monitor report on all outputs, evaluating the effectiveness of media communications activity, including social media, networking and press activity. 
  • Work closely with management to develop policies and guidelines as the standard which should be adhered to while creating, sharing, responding and dealing with comments, queries and complains on social platforms.
  • Supporting the delivery of different media related activities and working closely with the production unit, ensuring that the programs related to CSA/SECO respond to audience needs.
  • Monitor working hours, budget, plans and money spend. Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual reports, and develop effective information, education and communication (IEC) materials, press releases, articles etc. in coordination with the project team
  • Become an advocate for the organization in social media spaces, engaging in dialogues and answering questions where appropriate.

Requirements: 

  • Minimum Bachelor/Master Degree Preferable in Mass Communication, Journalism or Information Management field or similar qualification in related disciplines with minimum 3 years of working experience in Media Houses/ I/NGO, especially on Child Protection issues (preferably Online Child Sexual Abuse issues). The candidate should possess excellent English and Nepali writing skills, strong management and coordination skills, effective facilitation/communication, advocacy and interpersonal skills. Demonstrates creativity and documented immersion in social media. (Give links to profiles as examples).Displays in-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms, their respective participants (Facebook, Twitter) and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios. Team player with the confidence to take the lead of the campaigns. Makes evident good technical understanding and can pick up new tools quickly.
