Janahit Gramin Sewa Samittee (JGSS) is a Sindhupalchowk based NGO, registered in 1992, is pioneer in conducting economic development, social mobilization, local governance, poverty reduction, health, and sanitation and hygiene promotion programs in the district. JGSS is committed to improve the livelihood of the rural people especially the poor and the marginalized through self-help and community mobilization.

Janahit Gramin Sewa Samiti (JGSS) is a Sindhupalchowk based NGO, registered in 1992, is pioneer in conducting economic development, social mobilization, local governance, poverty reduction, health, and sanitation and hygiene promotion programs in the district. 

JGSS, in partnership with Oxfam, is implementing Nepal Earthquake Recovery 2017 in Sindhupalchok. The project aims to provide assistance to population of the most vulnerable and poor, earthquake affected population of Hagam, Pangtang, Baramchi of Jugal rural municipality and Kadambas and few wards of Chautara Municipality of the district through the restoration of WASH facilities and promotional activities, Shelter, DRR, food security and vulnerable livelihood and gender and protection.  In order to execute the project activities in aforementioned clusters, we are hiring competent staffs for the following positions.

Job title: Livelihood technician (Agro/Vet)

Job purpose: 

  • Under leadership of EFSVL officer, the post holder plan, implement and monitor EFSVL program at field level ensuring result oriented quality program delivery for livelihood recovery of earthquake affected vulnerable community.

Key Responsibilities for livelihood technician (Agro/Vet)

  • Responsible for selection, verification of producer groups, leader farmers (registered either in DADO and DLSO) and strengthening the capacity of groups and leader farmers.
  • Mobilization of leader farmers at community level as local resource person for agriculture and livestock development and tracking the work progress of leader farmers  
  • Identification of agriculture and livestock based income generation activities at community level
  • Support to establish and demonstrate improved ( Agriculture and Livestock) production plots at community level 
  • Conduct technical training sessions to agriculture and livestock producer groups , and leader farmers
  • Identification of alternative source of livelihood and assist for conduction of vocational and skill development trainings 
  • Beneficiary selection, verification and approval from local authority in coordination with social mobilizes 
  • Responsible for selection of cooperatives, producer groups, SMME and implement cooperative/ group based interventions as per plan.
  • Responsible for implementation of all EFSVL interventions at field level with maintain quality on time.
  • Establish a good relationship with other thematic members of the different team to integrate the issues related to EFSVL and work closely with other thematic member for integration with other component like Wash, gender and protection, shelter and DRR.
  • Establish and maintain good coordination with local authorities like rural municipality/ municipality, DCC as well as line agencies like DADO, DLSO, DIO and other concerned agencies for advocacy on the EFSVL issues.
  • Organize coordination meeting, producer group meeting, entrepreneur’s meeting at regular interval 
  • Responsible for arrangement of trainings at field level including irrigation channel management committee formation and orientation
  • Technically lead on selection, facilitation and distribution of agri machinery support as per the community demand 
  • Regular visit to producer group, group enterprises for tracking their progress, identify issues and discuss among team for way out.
  • Perform post distribution monitoring activities in coordination with meal team
  • Support EFSVL Officer and Program Coordinator in project planning and  implementation  as requirements
  • Support market mapping of products produced by producer groups and linkage of different actors of markets
  • Prepare monthly field plan,  monthly reporting
  • Collect , develop and share success stories to EFSVL officer on regular basis
  • Make arrangement for field visit and verification by Oxfam, Donor, district stakeholders and management.
  • Support to line manager for preparing regular programme reports through updating and tracking the regular reports (both narrative and financial).
  • Manage field issues at field level in coordination and guidance of line manager.
  • Any other task delegated by Line Manager.

Qualification, Skills and competencies

  • Junior Technical Assistant (JTA) in Agriculture/Livestock with at least 5 years of experience in food security and livelihoods projects or Junior Technician (JT) in Agriculture/Livestock with two year of experience in relevant sector.
  • Prior experience of working in humanitarian response and food security adds value.
  • Experience of working in livelihood related project
  • Good social mobilization, motivation and community sensitization skills
  • Knowledge in on farm and off farm enterprise development
  • Strong planning, analytical and strategic thinking skills  
  • Good written and spoken English and Nepali .
