Organization profile and background:

Welthungerhilfe (WHH) was founded in 1962 as the National Committee of the “Freedom from Hunger Campaign” set up by the United Nations’ Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO). Today it is one of Germany’s leading non-governmental organizations with a dual-mandate in both development cooperation and emergency response Non-profit making, non-denominational and politically independent, the organization is run by a board of honorary members under the patronage of the German President.

WHH works to create a world in which all people can exercise their right to a self-determined life in dignity and justice, free from hunger and poverty. To bring justice for all, WHH partners with civil society organizations in the countries where it operates, and currently the agency is partnering with over 100 local partners from 41 countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America (www.welthungerhilfe.de). WHH is operational in Nepal since 2012, and currently managing different project in nine districts under three programmatic areas: food and nutrition security; right to food and empowerment; and EQ rehabilitation and disaster risk reduction. Our overall goal is to work hand in hand with civil society in Nepal to empower socially marginalized and economically poor citizens to reinforce their resilience and to ensure right to adequate food and nutrition.

Location: Salyan District

Job purpose: The Head of Project (HoP) is overall responsible for the projects “Improving Livelihood of Marginalized Community in Salyan district” (ILMC) and “Building Community Enterprises for Small Holder Farmers in Nepal” (BCES)

Responsible to: Programme Manager

Main Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and facilitate project implementation with four partners in Salyan
  • Provide technical expertise for the project implementation
  • Responsible for project and budget monitoring
  • Conduct regular field monitoring visits
  • Ensure field level project documentation/reporting according to donor and WHH regulations and report to Programme Manager to reflect achievements of the project targets
  • Coordinate with government line agencies, local bodies, I/NGOs
  • Maintain efficient and positive relation with the local partner organizations
  • Assist Programme Manager in the development of ToR for project concerned consultancies (surveys, assessments, evaluations, etc.)
  • Attend and represent WHH at relevant meetings at local, district and federal level
  • Network with national and regional research institutes (e.g. NARC), organizations and thematic networks
  • Collect and document case studies and photos
  • Ensure integration of GESI and RBA through the project cycle
  • Organize monitoring visits of donors, government, WHH staff, etc.
  • Support partner organizations in conducting regular review and learning events
  • Ensure adherence to Core Humanitarian Standards at the field level during project implementation
  • Any other duties assigned by the Programme Manager/Country Director

Experience :

  • Minimum 7 years professional experience in a similar position
  • Experience in working with international agencies or INGOs.
  • Knowledge and skills on Rights- based approaches, GESI, nutrition, agriculture and value chain development
  • Proven track record of progressive and successful work of more than 7 years in the development sector with a minimum of 5 years being at similar assignment (preferably in agriculture, market development and nutrition)
  • Well versed in partner mobilization, community facilitation, institution building
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, facilitation skills and willing to work in team, open-minded and problem solving
  • Proposal and report writing skills
  • Willingness to travel extensively in the project locations
  • Fluency in Nepali and English and German language is an asset

Education:

  • Master’s degree in Agriculture, Rural Development, or similar discipline

Languages: Excellent command of spoken and written Nepali and English

Computer skills:

  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and Power point) and Publisher software
  • Familiarity to work with website & intranet applications incl. social media
  • Good working knowledge of modern communication systems Personal

Skills:

  • Creative, flexible and pro-active
  • Excellent coordination and facilitation skills
  • Team player; able to work in a multi-cultural environment
  • Willingness to work in the field, with overnight stays (village level)
  • Able to take initiative, self-motivated/independently working
  • Organized personality
  • Willingness to learn and to share knowledge
  • Valid Driver’s License, able to ride a motorcycle in rural environment
