Detailed Job Description / Requirements
IFAD is an international financing institution and a specialized United Nations agency dedicated to eradicating poverty and hunger in rural areas in the developing countries. It does so by financing programmes and projects that increase agricultural productivity and raise rural incomes, and by advocating at local, national and international levels for policies that enables poor rural people to overcome poverty. We are looking for a Gender Coordinator to join its country team in Nepal. OBJECTIVE AND SCOPE OF ASSIGNMENT: In line with IFAD's country strategy for Nepal, the successful candidate will assist in strengthening the focus and performance of IFAD's Country Programme with respect to gender and ensures the provision of technical support and guidance to enhance the impact of IFAD supported initiatives with respect to gender equality and women's empowerment. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the overall direction of the Country Programme Manager and direct supervision of the Country Programme Coordinator, the position will be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of strategies for gender mainstreaming and women's empowerment. This includes: i) Providing technical guidance and support on gender issues to specific project/ programme design and implementation processes such as design missions, AWPB development, direct supervision and monitoring and evaluation; (ii) Contribute to and foster knowledge management, advocacy, policy dialogue and partnership building processes pertaining to rural women, indigenous women and women pastoralists. (iii) Support networking and knowledge sharing processes across the country and regional programmes; QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: • A Masters' degree or equivalent in social sciences (gender studies, social policy, public policy, development economics or similar.) • A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in gender and social inclusion issues including gender planning, gender analysis, gender mainstreaming and promotion of gender equality at national levels. • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in gender and social inclusion issues and policy in Nepal; • Excellent computer, analytical, writing and communication skills in both Nepali and English. A contract for one year, subject to 6 months performance assessment, will be offered to the successful candidate.
