Our Client HIMALAYAN TRUST NEPAL is seeking to recruit FIELD SUPERVISORS (5) to manage school construction sites for the Rebuilding Earthquake Damaged Solukhumbu Schools (REDSS) Project in Solukhumbu District.

Established as part of the work of Sir Edmund Hillary and his Sherpa friends in the Everest Region, HTN is dedicated to achieving community-led sustainable mountain development in Solukhumbu District and wider Nepal.

HTN is supported by the Himalayan Trust (New Zealand) and the Himalayan Trust (UK), as well as other donors from Canada, USA, Germany and elsewhere.

NUMBER OF POSITIONS:  FIVE (5)

LOCATION:  SOLUKHUMBU DISTRICT

POSITION:   FIELD SUPERVISOR

THE JOB ROLE:

The successful candidates will work under the direction of the Senior Field Supervisor, to manage one or more school construction sites at a time. They will work closely with the school community and other stakeholders, and will be responsible for purchasing and checking local materials, as well as managing labour and community contributions with a strong focus on quality control.    Each Field Supervisor will be responsible for constructing schools in compliance with drawings, specifications, regulatory requirements, and in accordance with budgets, timeline programmes, implementation plan, operational procedures, and cash control and cash recording requirements.

PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Civil Engineering Overseer qualification with at least 3 years construction industry experience, OR Civil Engineering Sub-Overseer qualification with at least 5 years
  • Construction industry experience
  • Experience supervising building works in remote areas lacking motorable road access
  • Experience in working consultatively and collaboratively with local stakeholders, such as community-based organisations, local government authorities, district authorities
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • A good level of fitness at altitude, where the primary mode of travel will be trekking on foot over mountainous terrain
  • Able to spend extended periods in the field (100% based on specific construction sites)
  • Experience in delivering vocational training for construction skills would be an advantage but is not essential.
