Field Officer/ Mobilizer (Community Health Mobilizer)

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Community Health Mobilizer will be based in community and will work with Health Mother Groups in respective areas. With support from Project Coordinator, Community Health Mobilizer will work with Health Mother Groups to empower them on safe motherhood, MIYCN and Hygiene behavior. Community Health Mobilizers will work on the local health structure (Health facilities, birthing centers, PHC-ORC) to strengthen on Maternal Child Health and Nutrition Services. This position will work for behavioral changes on the 1000 days mother and their families to prevent the children (0-5 years) from malnutrition. Key duties includes:

  • Strengthen Health mother groups through empowerment
  • Promote behavior change communication for safe motherhood, MIYCN and Hygiene behaviors.
  • Collect information from Health mother groups ( Near-real time monitoring)
  • Implementation of the project activities
  • Strengthen local health facilities through local level advocacy
  • Reporting
  • Maintain relationship with local stakeholders at community ( FCHV, HFOMC, PHC-ORC, local political leaders, Health workers, and other NGOs working in the area)

Reports to: Project Coordinator

Major responsibilities

  • Form/reform Health Mother groups in target area
  • Facilitate regular meeting of Health mother group and support groups
  • Work closely with health facilities for health system strengthening
  • Behavior change communication on Safe motherhood, MIYCN and Hygiene behaviors.
  • Conduct orientation/training/workshop as per the plan
  • Support project coordinator on the project planning
  • Collect information to produce monthly report on Health mother group progress
  • Compile savings group information to feed into savings groups database
  • Work closely with FCHV and PHC-ORC to promote growth monitoring of the children
  • Collect the data of the pregnant mothers and mothers of children under two
  • Collect real near data from the health mother group
  • Collect case studies/success stories/promising practices
  • Support PD Hearth Volunteer to implement and monitor PD Hearth.
  • Advocate on the local health issues (growth monitoring, birthing services, PHC-ORC functionality, maternal child health and nutrition services etc.)

COMPETENCIES:

Academic Qualification and Experience

  • ANM/AHW with 2 years of experience on Health and Nutrition sector
  • or Health Assistant with 1 years of experience on Health and Nutrition Sector
  • or +2 education ( Health and Population) with 3.5 years of experience on Health and Nutrition sector

Sector Knowledge/competency:

  • Sound knowledge on maternal child health and nutrition
  • Should have sound knowledge on local Health issues and government priorities
  • Knowledge on empowerment approaches
  • Knowledge on behavior change communication
  • Knowledge on community mobilization

Capacity building

  • Skills on planning and capacity building of health mother groups, support groups and local health structure management committee (Health facility and PHC-ORC)
  • Skills on using different adult teaching methodologies
  • Good Facilitation skills
  • Good Communication skills
  • Good mobilization skills

Relationship Management

Knowledge and skills on maintaining relationship with local stakeholders at community (FCHV, HFOMC, PHC-ORC, local political leaders, Health workers, and other NGOs working in the area)

Project Management:

  • Implementation skills on planned activities
  • Good reporting skills
  • Good understanding on financial management system like supporting documents for voucher, advance settlement process etc
  • Good communication skills to deal with project team and stakeholders
  • Mobilizing health mother groups and support groups.

M&E

  • Experience pf collating information from the community
  • Knowledge to understand assessment process and findings and
  • Skills to do FGDs and Interview as a part of assessment/evaluation
  • Skills and knowledge of using mobile application on data collection.
