We are a women led Nepali National level NGO working for a gender equal society through four main areas of interventions; Gender Based Violence Prevention and Response, Awareness and Education, Income Generation and Institutional Collaboration. It started out as an international NGO with the headquarters in Italy on 2004 and evolved into a national NGO in 2013.

We fights against prejudice, violence, and inequalities so that women develop skills necessary to support themselves and their families. We help women confront uphill battles: gender based violence, restricted access to and control over resources, low literacy, struggles to obtain citizenship documents, and other social and economic challenges.

We are looking for Engineers experienced in construction management of building for its construction related project/s.

Type of Employment : Contractual

Location : Kathmandu based with frequent field visit to designated district/s

Salary : As per organization policy

Civil Engineer (Construction)

A civil engineer will be responsible to manage the construction project/s. She/he will be responsible to review the design and documents; confirm specifications, supervise the construction work, track the construction progress and handle overall activities of the assigned project/s.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Review the Designs of construction projects by studying project concept, architectural drawings, and models.
  • Handle and Supervise tendering procedures and facilitate the selection of the construction company
  • Leading the overall construction project/s
  • Manage, supervise and visit contractors on site and advise on civil engineering issues;
  • Adopt all relevant requirements around issues such as building permits, environmental regulations, sanitary design, good manufacturing practices and safety on all work assignments;
  • Schedule material and equipment purchases and delivery;
  • Coordinate, facilitate and supervise implementing partner
  • Track the project costs by calculating labor, material, and related costs.
  • Prepares engineering documents by developing construction specifications, plans, and schedules.
  • Confirms adherence to construction specifications and safety standards by monitoring project progress; inspecting construction site; verifying calculations and placements.
  • Help with identifying additional and external expertise linked to reconstruction process in order to compile a skills database.
  • Provides engineering information by answering questions and requests.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
  • Maintains project data base
  • Assess the potential risks of specific projects, as well as undertake risk management in specialist roles;
  • Think both creatively and logically to resolve design and development problems;
  • Manage budgets and other project resources;
  • Attend public meetings to discuss projects, especially in a senior role;
  • Ensure that a project runs smoothly and that the structure is completed on time and within budget;
  • Correct any project deficiencies that affect quality and safety requirements before final evaluation and project reviews.

Skills and Qualifications Required:

  • Minimum Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from recognized university
  • Having minimum 5 years of working experience in design and estimate, building construction management, or construction administration
  • Experience working in rural communities of Nepal
  • Knowledge of monitoring and implementing construction and reconstruction projects;
  • Familiarity with Nepal Building Code
  • Technical knowledge on reviewing designs
  • A sound understanding of building by laws/ building code highly preferred
  • Current knowledge of reconstruction development, related challenges, and ability to navigate government departments for approval
  • Analytical and able to prioritize the work
  • Experience working on donor funded program
  • Good Observation, Assessment & Reporting Skills
  • Knowledge of humanitarian standards of construction (shelter, schools, layouts, etc.)
  • Understanding of local NGOs and international NGOs mechanisms
  • Ability to interact comfortably with beneficiaries and communities’ stakeholders
  • Fluency in English and Nepali

Computer Skill:

· Should have knowledge of operating Microsoft windows packages such as Word, Excel, email, internet and some packages of database management, but must have knowledge on operating AUTO CAD with typing skills in Nepali and English languages.
