Database Engineer

Oval Analytics looking for a Full-time Database Engineer to join our team in Kathmandu. As a Data Engineer, you will build the core backend infrastructure and dataflow pipeline capability for our solutions. Ideally, you should be someone comfortable working with large datasets and be able to design scalable architecturs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Listen to the client's business needs, audit their current data infrastructure.
• Design, develop and manage custom data platform for the analytical work.
• Integrate data from different sources including databases, social media and app APIs.
• Optimize the data collection, extraction, and storage processes and implement ETL processes.
• Research the Big Data and MPP ecosystem for possible implementations.
• Participate in strategic and tactical planning discussions with the rest of the team.

MUST HAVE

• Extensive experience with traditional SQL RDBMS technologies/data warehouses in production environment. Oracle PL/SQL experience preferred.
• Unix shell skills, familiarity with scripting languages such as bash, perl, awk, python etc.
• Experience in installing, administering, and supporting Linux operating systems and hardware in an enterprise environment.
• Solid foundation in computer science, with ability to code in Java and/or Python.
• Some experience working with a NoSQL database in a real-life scenario.
• Self starter, team player, and willing to take responsibility.

GOOD TO HAVE

• Enthusiasm for working with Big Data and any prior experience with distributed systems.
• Experience with parallel databases such as HP Vertica.
• Amazon AWS or any cloud computing skills.
• Previous experience leading the development of a core data infrastructure.
• Bachelors degree in computer science or related field.
• Prior Data Mining or Machine Learning / Predictive Modeling experience.
• Outstanding speaking, writing, and presentation skills, as well as the ability to persuade, inspire, and motivate others.
