Nepal Institute of Development Studies (NIDS) a national level nongovernmental organization working in the field of migration and livelihood, seeks proposals from interested relevant consultants to conduct a baseline study of the seasonal migrant families in Kailali and Surkhet districts with appropriate and in-depth understanding of the socio-economic and political environment under which the seasonal migrant workers and their families operate in two districts as well as in India, for the implementation of the Safer Remittances and Improved Livelihoods (SRIL) project in these districts.

Qualification required:

At minimum the consultant must possess the following: 

  • At least a Masters Degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies or Economics, 10 years demonstrated experience in social research (labour, gender and economic programmes) and migration policy analysis in Nepal. Experience of at least 5 baseline research conducted.
  • Experience on migration/Foreign employment related issues in Nepal or South Asia;
  • Good understanding of the migrant workers with demonstrated practical working experience or research in such environment. 
  • Experience of effective interaction with local national organizations, government departments, and international humanitarian actors. 
  • Conversant with application of cross cutting themes like gender mainstreaming, and gender competence, M&E, Advocacy and child protection to programming. 
  • Good written skills in English. 
  • Proven experience of using participatory rural appraisal tools as the means of data collection for Baseline purposes. 
  • Excellent analytical and report writing skills.
