POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Communications Specialist, Counter Trafficking in Persons, Nepal 

Effective with the release of this position announcement, Winrock International is recruiting applicants for the position of Communications Specialist for an anticipated USAID-funded program to Counter Trafficking in Persons in Nepal. The program will seek to strengthen the national and local government efforts to combat TIP, improve CSO advocacy, and increase private sector partnerships to assist survivors and those at-risk.

The responsibilities, duties, and qualifications are described in the attached position description. Position is contingent upon receipt of donor funding.

Position Description

POSITION TITLE: Communications Specialist, Nepal CTIP

LOCATION: Kathmandu, Nepal

DEPARTMENT: Civil Society & Education

REPORTS TO: Chief of Party

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Communications Specialist will lead program’s external communication strategy and enhance capacity of key stakeholders in developing and using traditional and social media communication tools and methods to promote behavior change for Countering Trafficking in Persons(CTIP) outcomes.

ESSENTIAL REPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the development of program’s Communications plan.
  • Support the development ofa Behavior Change Campaign (BCC) on preventing TIP and risky migration
  • Lead the integration of innovative ICT solutions for prevention and protection.
  • Lead the implementation of NCTIP branding and marking plan in collaboration with USAID, government and other key stakeholders.
  • Provide technical leadership and enlist support of key media partners and other stakeholders in designing, implementing and measuring the impact of TIP events, communication materials, campaigns, and other key TIP activities at national and sub-national levels.
  • Liaise with media
  • Liaise with Winrock’s Home Office Communications team in addressing all communication requirements for CTIP.Assist in preparing technical reports, quarterly and annual reports, newsletters, press-release and updates for the donor.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Education: Degree in communications, international development, behavioral economics, or related field
  • Technical: Minimum of 7 years of professional expertise in communications, public relations or behavioral change campaigns. 

Management Experience:

  • Experience implementing international projects to the highest ethical standards 
  • Relevant and significant experience in training, designing and implementing capacity building plans in communications research, behavior change, development communications; targeting a wide range of stakeholders such as local NGOs, media practitioners, youth groups.
  • Professional expertise in developing communications plans, materials, and methods, including monitoring the impact of these on target audiences.

Skills/Knowledge:

  • Technical experience in human trafficking and related themes, specifically contextualized in South Asia preferred;
  • Excellent networking skills and proven experience in enlisting media practitioners and other key stakeholders in planning and executing major events and campaigns 
  • Proven track record utilizing appropriate traditional and social media to achieve objectives
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Nepali required; 
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Editor, Movie Maker and Powerpoint.
